OCing an E6850 to 400MHz FSB

So I'm trying to get my E6850 to 3.6GHz (400MHz FSB). On stock voltage (1.35V), I can get it to 3.33GHz (370MHz FSB). But in order to get it stable on 3.6GHz, I need 1.48V on the Vcore which seems unnecessarily high.

So far I've tried varying the north bridge voltage from 1.25V stock to 1.41V. And I've tried giving the memory a little extra voltage (1.85V). The temperatures seem to be fine, always staying at least 25C away from Tjunc while running Orthos. Any ideas?

Specs:
E6850 G0
ABIT IP35 Pro Motherboard
GSkill 800MHz DDR2 RAM (set 1:1)

Im here to help, I had a P5K for 5 years. I tell you what you gotta tweak.

First off you dont need 1.48v for 3.6Ghz All you need is 1.42v at most.

If you wanna tweak the BUS you have to max out the NB voltage. to 1.7v or the max on your mobo , Then you also have to turn on CPU PLL and max that out. Now you can play with your vcore and bus to see what you can do. gl

My old E2140 CPUs in my P35-DS3R board required 1.425v in BIOS to OC to 3.2Ghz. Your vcore doesn't seem too out of the ballpark for 3.6.

How much has that mobo been through? You might not be getting accurate readings on the voltage feeding the chip. IIRC vdroop was an issue with those.

My ip35pro had some crazy voltage regulation issues after ocing for a while so I wouldn't get too ambitious.

Seems like you found the point of diminishing returns for your chip. I would leave it at 3.33ghz, running higher voltage through it is only going to reduce its lifespan.

Wow cuz I know up to 3Ghz is free. no need to touch voltage. Depends VirtuaLarrry ,,,,,, I think you had vdrop going on. So that 1.42v in BIOS is like 1.40v in windows ?? possibly,,,,, ranting away @ 4:30am lol

Thanks for the replies, everyone. The forum subscription thing doesn't appear to be working.

I've been leaving it at stock voltage because of the serious law of diminishing return for the overclock, but I'm playing Assassin's Creed now and it's CPU limited so I thought I'd give attempting to overclock another go.

The board basically hasn't been overclocked in its life thus far, but it has over 2.5 years of power on time on the clock according to uGuru. It reports 1.44-1.45V while running Orthos when set to 1.48V. I'm not sure how accurate that is.

Looks like it might be time for an upgrade
