OC'ing Epox 8KHA+ & Athlon XP 1600+

I have just ordered the components necessary to build a system based around the following components:

1) Athlon XP 1600+
2) Epox 8KHA+
3) 512 MB Crucial RAM PC2100 DDR (CAS=2.5)

4) Enlight case
5) SVC Golden Gate 40 HS/Fan
6) Maxtor 20 GB (7200 rpm; ATA 100) HD


How high can I successfully OC this setup; What would be a safe OC setup (FSB? Mult?)?

Most people usually hit 145+ MHz FSB speeds with that crucial shiznit It's good stuff, I'd try out like 138 and go up in 1MHz increments until it won't post, then back down the to the last one that worked and then see which one will still boot into windows.

Also the 1600+ from what I've gathered is a hefty o/c'er. OC ON BRO!

What about multiplier setting?... How much should the voltage be set at?

What's the max clock speed that you have reached stably?

1) clock mult on the XP is locked. You will need to unlock it.
2) 1.85v core voltage, 2.7v DDR
3) I have an XP1800+ that runs XP2000+ (1.68GHz)

You can't unlock it with the pencil trick anymore. You have to fill the gaps, and then connect the bridges. Good luck...

I have thought about trying to overclock my 1600, but I think I will need better cooling. My cpu temp gets up to 46 right now under a full load. So i would not want to push it too far for just a few MHZ.

Maybe if I can get some better cooling later.


I am currently running a Thermalright SK-6 heatsink with a 60-mm to 80mm converter and a 80mm sunon fan. With various case fans.

Case temp runs about 6 degrees over room temp.
