OCing my new system is not going well...

Here is my setup:
ABIT NF7-S rev 2.0
GAIL PC3500 2x256
BARTON 2500+
Swiftech 462
OC Level II 9700Pro
Seagate Cuda V SATA
XP SP1

Without overclocking I tried 3D Mark 2001se and I got 15120. Then I decided that I need some OC action. I lowered multiplyer to 8 and started to raise FSB. XP would not boot with anything over 180. I tried to raise RAM voltage but it wouldn't help. Chipset is at 1.7 which is the max value. THen I got pissed and set the FSB to 200 - Window system files got corrupted. Now I'm reinstalling XP

that's one hell of a system you got there... but i'm not sure if the bartons are overclockable like the T-breds...

Five hours later, 3 new installations of XP, 5 recoveries through recovery console I finally got something going. I relaxed RAM timings to 7-3-3 cas 2 and so far everything is running smoothly. I'm at 2210MHz (170x13). I think now with relaxed RAM timings I could try bumping it higher, but I'm so scared XP will get corrupted and I'll have to install OS again that I think I'll leave it like that for a while.
I've got 17,041 on 3DMark2001se - compared to my "old" GF3 at ~7000 it is a speed demon.

Check out this article. There is speculation that current nForce2 boards have problems running higher FSBs with a 333mhz fsb cpu (Bartons). Cutting the L12 bridge apparently fixes this issue (details in article), and people are able to get higher FSB from Barton cpus = better OCing.

I am about to build a new work computer, and I have ordered Abit NF7-S and Barton 2500+. I hope to OC a bit, and I found this information in my search. I am now tempted to simply plug in an inexpensive 2100+ and run that until 400mhz fsb chips become available. On the other hand, cutting the L12 bridge doesn't seem too involved, and I am tempted to stick it out with the 2500+. I'll have to check and see if my order was placed yet (University bureaucracy sometimes has benefits).

Today I cut the L12 Bridge (Actually I zapped it first with 9v and then cut it - just to make sure I don't have to do it a second time)
Yesterday booting to XP with RAM over 170 was impossible. Today I'm running stable at 220x10
