ocing my p2.4

I recently built my first computer and i was interested in doing a little minor over clocking. Mostly for experimantal purposes and because im curiuse as to how its done. Well any way, I was wondering what exactly i need to know befor i over clock my computer. Also if any one knows where some good directions for over clocking a p4 is that would be help full. Basicaly i have no idea how to do it but im curiuse so any help would be great. I only have the stock intel heat sink, which cools preaty well. although i wont beable to over cloack a whole lot with out geting a better one. from what ive heard any way. well thanks for the help

Well, there are few things to consider:

1. You have to get familiar with your BIOS (you enter it by pressing the key which is mentioned while booting the computer - probably F1, F10 or Delete)
2. There you have to find settings for memory and FSB speed - which you have to choose as set manually and go in increments of 5 MHz (on the FSB), leave memory on auto for the beginning
3. If the computer starts to lock up, raise the voltage
4. Probably the limit of your processor will be around 166 MHz FSB.

Please, give mobo model, processor model, RAM type and everything else you are gonna use if any problems arise...

What is a good sweet spot for the 2.4b that you can go to with standard coolin?

I've got mine at 2.88 (160fsb) with stock cooling. It will boot at 3.15, 1.69v, but I'm waiting for my Alpha Pal8942 to arrive before I let it run that high.

It really depends a lot on the chip. I had a SL6EF 2.4b that would run 167fsb at stock voltage 100% stable. Now I have a SL6RZ 2.4b that runs 180fsb stable at stock vcore, and I'm testing it now at 185fsb at 1.6volts. We'll see how this goes

yeah i looked at my chip to try to determin what type it was but it seems that my heat sink from intell had a strange black themal compund that melted all over the serial numbers and stuff so i couldent read them. i removed the past to see if i could determin it but there just to small and discolored and i dont want to remove any more or risk damage. i then installed this arctic 3 stuff that people are saying is good. and my prossesor acualy runs about 4 degrees cooler now. it is at about 34c i dont know if thats good or bad. Oh yes also my mother board is an asus p4s8x ram 1 corsair 256 and one mushkin 256 all ddr pc2700. my prossesor is a northwood i dont know those last 4 digits of the serial or whatever, as explained above. thanks for all the help guys
