Hi,
I'm trying to overclock this chip on MSI K8NGM2-FID by following this thread guide.
http://forums.anandtech.com/messageview...atid=29&threadid=1803985&enterthread=y

However, I run into some performance problem. I can clock stable @ only 2.25GHz. I can't run 1T with 4 sticks... I try running 2 sticks that doesn't help either...

Bios v3.20
Athlon 64 Venice 3200+ E6
Corsair XMS DDR400 512x2 + Corsair ValueRAM 512x2
* Memclock Mode [Limit]
o Memclock Value [166 MHz]
* User Config Mode [Auto] (CMD-ADDR Timing Mode [2T])
* CPU to NB Frequency [1000 MHz]
* NB to SB Frequency [1000 MHz]
* CPU to NB Linkwidth [16 down, 16 up]
* CPU-LDT Frequency, MHz [225]

I upgrade my mobo from Jetway A210GDMS which I usually clock my mem @ 220 MHz (4x512) and the CPU usually runs stable at 2.2GHz.

Is this mean I don't have a good CPU?

BTW, what is the super PI score for stock Venice 3200+? (Says 1M, 2M, 4M, 8M)

Any comment is appreciated.
Thanks,
tempoct

I'd say the dog is the motherboard and the 4 sticks of mismatched memory, not the CPU.

The worst venice i've ever seen topped out at 2.45 Ghz, and the guy was plain unlucky. Super Pi 1M for a stock 3200+... idk around 45 seconds? The other nM measurements i don't know.

I changed my configuration to have only the two XMS but it didn't improve much... Got 2.27GHz now
For the board, many people in the motherboard forums seem to agree that it is quite stable. Maybe I got a bad one? Not really sure how to identify my problem...

Any thought? Maybe I need a better RAM? BTW, I saw the Vcore fluctuate a little from 1.37-1.4 all the time. Is that normal?

Try lowering hyper transport down to 3x

(i.e. * CPU to NB Frequency [600 MHz]
* NB to SB Frequency [600 MHz]
I assume..)

After that, maybe try a little higher v-core (1.425v? or even 1.45v?)

Thanks, I'll try that. (I have lower it from 1000MHz to 800MHz now but not much improvement).
My mobo doesn't have V-core adjustment in this version

I have the same cpu and I got mine to 2.45 stable. I believe it would do more if I messed with the memory timings and voltages. But I'm happy with what I got

In all honesty, its not even worth it. Just sell it on ebay for $130-$140, and get yourself an opteron that does 2.7-2.8ghz at least, and be done.

Ive actually owned about 5 different 3200+ venices and most of them topped at around 2.5ghz, a few did 2.6 with higher volts. Opterons are so cheap these days, especially 144's. Thats what id do.
