We're talking 20 GB/s or so higher bandwidth on the 290X (6-7% over Titan assuming 307 GB/s vs 288 GB/s), it's nothing that will make a huge difference at any resolution.

We don't know but typically when you run RAM at lower clocks you can tighten up the timings and reduce latency. Possibly a way where the slower RAM on a 512 bit bus can skew the results in Hawaii's favor.

That seems like it would help with smooth frame delivery not necessarily with total fps.

It probably automatically jumps from 800 to 1050mhz in 3d applications - that is what the 7970GE basically did, swap between 925 and 1050 in 3d applications.

Iirc, the boost on 7970GE is only 50mhz. The card operates at 1Ghz core GPU clock and boosts 50mhz to 1050mhz in 3d apps.

800mhz to 1050mhz sounds odd for sure. AMD advertised compute performance at over 5Tflops. If it boosts to 1050mhz out of the box, you are looking at nearly 6Tflops (5.91). If the card boosted to 1.05Ghz, why wouldn't AMD state > 5.5Tflops of compute?

Maybe they don't want to advertise their products based on variable boost frequency and they put ">" sign before the value based on base clock speeds to indicate that scores will be higher with new boost feature.

But there's no REAL evidence of it running at FULL boost clock during games, since the frequency changes so fast - and there's not any polling software able to capture the actual real-time frequency.... right?
