So the new go to metric is lower resolution. It gets more and more ridiculous how far people will reach to try and show nVidia in a better light.
Dude, most people are still on 1080p and 1440p.
Some might even chase 1440p 120/144Hz, not 4K 60Hz.

15.7 fixes the 1080/1440p issue, lots of people on forums & reddit are seeing massive gains.

Also a few of the upcoming games for DX12 is sponsored by AMD, Battlefront, Deus Ex, Hitman, all big AAA titles.. things are looking up for AMD! Now all they need is to release vcore modding tools.
Glad that the waves of Gameworks games thinned. Now it's the GamingEvolved wave, can't wait for that.

* Seriously if AMD wanted to neuter Kepler/Maxwell with DX12, they'll just have games use more asynchronous compute features (remember the E3 event with devs showcasing compute usage in DX12 games, basically "free performance on GCN!"). Tonga, Hawaii, Fiji all have 8 Compute ACE that can handle those tasks with much more throughput than NV's current uarch (Maxwell 2 IIRC is limited to 64 compute OR 1 rendering + 1 compute, Kepler would just facepalm and weep in a corner).
AMD doesn't really maintain these tools AFAIK.

A few weeks ago when people were convinced 4GB wouldn't handle 4K it was important. And the real important metric was VRR below 40Hz. Now that we have 35Hz Freesync and working overdrive we're on 1080 @ 144Hz. See how the goalposts move?

As Fury's performance continues to improve no telling what will be next.

AMD is trying to fail hard, they launch Fury X and now Fury Pro without their best drivers, 15.7... these reviews still using 15.15 branch.

Still, basically Fury 5% less than Fury X at the same clocks is pretty damn good.

PCPER already called it: Batman AK and AMD's lack of "driver support" for GameWorks titles.

Not that it matters since that game is a POS and people basically paid for a alpha test.

ps. 15.7 is making Fury X 5-20% faster from user reports. Definitely will change the competitive landscape.

You know, there's a simple question: why AMD could not have this driver (looks like a very good one) during Fury X launch (less than 3 weeks ago)?
Reception/perception of that card could be a bit different as I guess.

I would say, yes, most people would enjoy playing games in their pimped out media room or at least on the big screen + audio system at times depending on the game.

Ya I have no idea what's wrong with people's brains on this forum when it comes to PC Gaming using other devices than a monitor. It's like they can't seem to wrap their head around the fact that someone would want to play games on a big screen TV, but would want performance above a console.

Spending $2200+ on Titan X SLI makes sense to some of them, yet spending money on a "premium" console replacement doesn't make sense at all.

Ya, I just finished Bioshock 2 though on my bigscreen. About to text guy now to purchase the R9 290 if it's still available then play infinite on 1800p downsampled.

Hardocp used 15.7

Don't care for that shill site. They finally included GW off but they test games and find the one scene where AMD performs worse and bench with that. Read their GTAV in-depth, they find the one area where Grass on Ultra tanks AMD performance and emphasize that.. what if users find areas where NV tanks? Hmm.

And their analysis is wrong regarding system power use, the delta is ~10%! Fury is faster with GW off, its MORE power efficient.

But they sum up based on GW features on, saying 980 is better. Well no shaaat, if all you do is play NV games with GW on, then go with NV GPUs.

Btw, bang on ~5%, heck its even less than that at the same clocks. hehe
It's like 290 and 290X all over again

Sapphire's Fury Tri-X looked good, the only bad thing is the VRM temps which can get pretty high.
The unlocked maximum temperature limit of 80C seems pretty low, it's bad for those without AC in summers or living close to equator.

Man those people at my place are still selling second hand 980s for $526 lol, they are crazy (For reference a ref 980Ti & Fury X sells for $737 including tax here)

There's a ton of variation based on sites. Some find it very close to Fury X but reading HWC, the gap is quite big, about 10%-12% at 1440p.

Price delta isn't much if there's such a gap, definitely X worth it for its water cooler. Grab a pair for a nice CF setup, would make more sense than two air cooler Fury Pros.

One card to rule them all and perfect for my eyefinity set up.
yea crossfire guys would go fury x for sure.
or run custom blocks on fury could be a nice option as the one slot have an appeal to me.

That would be incorrect. When we look for areas in games to use as our run-through we look for the areas that are the most gpu intensive. We use both NV and AMD GPUs, find this area, and use that. It is dependent on the game, not the GPU.

You might want to re-do your maths in the power & conclusion analysis.

The delta is very small, ~10% system power. Fury beats 980 when GW is off, often by a lot (Dying Light massive 30% win). Therefore it is more power efficient than a 980.

If you only base your conclusion on running mostly NV sponsored titles with NV features enabled, then NOTHING AMD MAKES will ever be competitive. PERIOD.

If you can elude to your audience that you are biased towards NV, in that you want to play mostly NV titles and play it with NV features on, then fine.. but don't pretend to be a non-biased review site.

Ya I just read a HardOCP review and they said the power difference was massive...
I read the chart it was 40 freaking watts for full system usage....

That's the wattage of the lowest power lightbulb in those 5 lightbulb dorm setup

I have one of these and what the lightbulbs come at a minimum of 40 watts? That's a "MASSIVE" difference now?
