OCZ changed warranties again!

Looks like OCZ decided to just up and change all warranties again. After having warranty denied on a SSD I checked. I was directed to this page which says Toshiba no longer officially supports it (nor any of the Vertex 1-4 or Revodrives): http://ocz.com/us/support/legacy-products and http://ocz.com/us/support/warranty

They also now deny warranties by TBW: "Warranty is 5 years or the max TBW (total bytes written) per model capacity, whichever occurs first". (see under full specs on page here: http://ocz.com/us/ssd/vt180-ssd#show

They also changed the Shieldplus warranty to advanced warranty and can now offer prorated refunds at their discretion where they used ot send new drives. They also previously advertised you only need the serial number, now you need receipts sent with the defective drive. If they don't like the receipt they bill you. http://ocz.com/us/support/advanced-warranty From under warranties "After receipt of new replacement Product, please return to TOSHIBA the Product in accordance with TOSHIBA’s instructions, together with your return the original purchase receipt or a legiable copy. If TOSHIBA determines that a returned product is not subject to a valid warranty claim, TOSHIBA may require you to pay the costs of providing any replacement products or repair services."

For a company struggling with reputation they sure are making it harder and harder. They up and changed warranties once now they change it again. It could change again next week.

EDIT: After some back and forth OCZ made an exception and honored the original warranty on my drive. All I had to do was understand many drives are no longer officially supported by Toshiba/OCZ. They are only officially supporting drives released after OCZ became part of Toshiba.

OCZ pretty much shot itself in the foot the moment they started making SSDs. Just look up SSD anthology by anand himself.

This means we may get more quality drives too! Can't even begin to count how man failed Vertex and Agility drives I've gone through over the years. OCZ was a warranty revolving door!

Pretty sure OCZ can't rewrite the warranty for stuff already sold.
They can do it for new stuff though--and yeah, that sucks.

However, you can't really compare the old OCZ products with the newer ones post Toshiba buy out. It is a different ballgame.

That is debatable. Some have been good, like the Vector 180. There is still a whole lot of garbage though. I was on my way to link a 2 star review average of a Trion 100 but it was now up to 3 stars, still pretty bad. This caught my attention and looks more important and shocking: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produ...e=Enterprise SSDs&Order=BESTMATCH&isdeptsrh=1

Those are refurbed Enterprise drives lol! So many enterprise class failures they had to refurb to make cents on the dollar? WTH? I am sure they were purged but should they even be reselling drives that at one time may have had sensitive data stored? What if a purge failed or there was human error in the electrical purging process?

They don't recycle NAND chips like that.
As for the Trion, that is comparable to other TLC based drives based on the same controller.
Look at their Arc 100, that is also comparable to other MLC drives based on the same controller.
I am not trying to make excuses for them, I am just saying that OCZ is nothing like the old OCZ that was basically a guinea pig for the Sandforce controller--which did have lots of firmware issues, and thus they got a bad reputation, BUT, even with their bad reputation on their products, their support back then was stellar. I know of no other SSD company that would overnight a SSD direct from Asia to your door.

I stopped generally buying OCZ products after Toshiba bought them out. Their warranty process was great and they had a Canadian RMA center which was beneficial to us Canadians instead of shipping to the US. From what it sounds like on the OP posts it seems like they are not trying to honor previous warranties for EOL or legacy products. If this is the case then I might as well stop buying OCZ products completely as I still have some older OCZ SSD's that are running to this day.

i had a failed vertex 3 drive i kept mailing back and they finally mailed me a vertex 4. they took care of warranties really well, but at great personal cost i would imagine, making them a tempting target to buy.

Not really trying to turn this into a overview of OCZ history, just wanted to make others aware OCZ changed their warranties again.

OCZ changed their warranties after the Toshiba purchase back in 2013: http://www.anandtech.com/show/7727/an-update-regarding-oczs-warranties In that process they cancelled or modified the warranty terms over a dozen drive models.

Now they have changed it again. You can view the warranty periods on current and former products on their warranty page. Then compare with the last time they changed it. Honest, trusty companies don't make those changes. http://ocz.com/us/support/warranty
