Sorry, what is "Modular"?
Modular What?
Some of you may not know what a modular power supply is. Honestly, before I was offered the review, I had never heard of them. So, I did a little research and found some pretty useful information.
Modular power supplies are made to reduce cable clutter by allowing you to plug in only the cables you need to your power supply. For instance, if you only have one hard drive and one optical drive, you only have to have one or two 4-pin powerconnectors. If you have an SATA hard drive, you can just plug in the SATA cable and one 4-pin connector.
The purpose of the modular power supply system is to reduce clutter, make it look neater, and increase airflow through the system. A pretty clever idea, if you ask me.

Except at full load where they go out of spec in terms of ripple (although since they're overkill for 90% of systems out there you shouldn't have to worry about that too much.

was an interesting read! Even though I think a situation such as test #6 is extremely rare (then again: a 15-minute run @ full load is not considered a true STRESS test...), fact is that the ripple exceeds allowed ATX specs.Originally posted by: modestninja
