the g.skills are great, won't clock as high, but at least 230-250mhz, some up to 270-280 on xtremesystems.org forums, i feel dumb that I got them at $215 a few weeks back, for $188 shipped I wouldn't hesitate, and 2gb is getting to be more useful as more software is taking advantage of it, I wouldn't waste money on 2x512mb, but that's just me

The 2x 512 MB kits are all TCCD. Pretty hot deal all around.

I'd go 2x1 GB, though.

can't say for sure how fast mine will go, haven't tested them enough, and my Winchester CPU sux, I think when my opteron 165 comes in December I'll be able to tell how much these sticks are good for, right now I'm just idling at 220mhz mem 2.2ghz cpu, was running at 245mhz and 2.45ghz with my patriot tccd's. Things have been a little hairy at higher clocks, oddly I can run them higher (230-240mhz) using the 9x multiplier and 166 divider on my cpu, seems the memory controller might be the limiting factor right now. So for me at least, these aren't as friendly with my cpu as my TCCD's were, but for this price they are a steal.

Thanks for the replies,
I guess its pretty much decided. I'll go for the g.skill (2x1gig).
2 gigs for 30 bucks more so I can't complain.

I don't think I'm going opteron b/c their still overpriced, but what ur advice?

Should be getting my G.Skill mid-week from NewEgg, I ordered on Friday. Will be paired up with my Opty 165, replacing the current GEIL 2x 1GB Value PC3200 - they seem to have problems with dividers and hope the G.Skill helps.

on Sunday when I was going to order, they were sold out so no buy icon

Mamisano - tell us how it works out, I'll still keep my eye out for the g.skill, hopefully before x-mas

"I don't think I'm going opteron b/c their still overpriced, but what ur advice?"

Let's see,
My Opty 144 @2800MHz = $155.00
My Opty 146 @3000MHz = $188.00

You are right, these chips are really over priced!!!

I've been here for a while, but I still haven't taken the time to figure out what TCCD means. So, what does it mean?

It means the memory uses Samsung TCCD chips. Here's a review done specifically on the Patriot memory, but it compares all of the TCCD memory: http://www.anandtech.com/memory/showdoc.aspx?i=2390

These chips overclock really well, even though they're sold as PC3200 memory. I have the Patriot memory in mine, which has my P4 2.4C at 3.0GHz at 1:1. My memory's running at DDR500 at 2.5-3-3-6 timings. I still have the stock heatsink and fan on there, so I should be able to up the speeds a lot more once I have time to install my Scythe Ninja heatsink, and the memory should be able to handle it.
