Not sure how good of a SSD this is, but it comes out less than $1 a gb and is supposed to be fairly fast.

I'd rather jam an OCZ SSD up my urethra than put another one in my PC.

I purchased one for a new build. Fair enough on your comments Nebor. I've followed some of the OCZ debacle as well so I understand where you're coming from. From what I've been able to find though, this drive isn't too bad. Guess we'll see

haha, tell us what you really think?

yea, my gskill titan just kicked the bucket after 2.5 years. back to velociraptors until ssd realiability gets better. the firmwares are just too unstable... there's a reason why these are getting prices slashed left and right... vendors trying to get rid of the crap stock fast, before word gets out to the average consumer.

(btw, really digging the new raptors, feels ssd gen 1 fast)

OCZ is missing me on the rebates, limit 1 is dumb. I'd get two or three and put in raid0

Basically Intel (and Samsung) are the only drives you should use if you care about your (or your customers) data.

I've been using my Intel drives for years.
Those are the only two brands I bought for myself. Who needs the problems?

Now there's a resounding recommendation...

If you look at reviews of SSD's as a whole, I couldn't actually recommend any of them. They can say Intels are more reliable, but I found just as many bad Intels. You would need to compare the # of OCZ drives purchased vs. Intel then compare the overall negative reviews and still not get a good comparison.

I just posted this because its the first time I've seen a 120GB drive for less than $1/gb. Truth be told, SSD's in general have subpar reliability at this time. It's a risk you take.

While yes it is true if you sell more you will have more bad drives. Its still been shown that Intel and Samsung are up there on reliability.

This is the first thing I thought. If I were building a new one, I'd take the risk on reliability for this cost. Hopefully I'll see this again when it's building time next year.

They should bundle these drives with Acronis or some cloud service. Pretty good deal if you have the stomach for it.

In case you didn't know, we're about a week away from the release date of OCZ's Octane SSDs (Source). These will use the Indilinx Everest controller, so they might not have the same reliability issues as the Sandforce controller.

I'd add Kingston V+ 100 to that list as well.

I've had four of them for over six months now without a single hiccup on machines that are all used daily. They're not the fastest, but they've been great.

Yeah... the new firmware ain't all that. Makes the Urethra idea even more tantalizing.
When 2.15 came out, I did secure erase, cleared cmos (battery out for 1/2 a day), reinstalled windows... it doesn't go 24hrs without crashing.

If FW was stable, then the deal would be descent.

Then read up on the Crucial M4 (or actually use one). Yes, there are some drives out there that are still marginal, but you are painting with a pretty broad brush. FWIW, I run my M4 as I did my 74GB WD Raptor it replaced-OS and one or two apps that benefit nicely from the speedup, all imaged. In short, nothing that can't be reinstalled in a matter of minutes. But, I digress. This is, after all, the HD forum...

Understood, but it's still a crap shoot. Things these days cost more and last less. Technology Premium prices should mean more/faster features, not well it might not arrive DOA and might last you a few more months than our competitors.

For a home OS drive, you're still taking a chance that an SSD won't crap out on you, now, next week, 6 months down the road, or even until you totally tech refresh. These drives are small and easily backed up. I am pretty certain most if not all of you have a larger non SSD drive so that shouldn't be an issue. ANY hd can fail. Are some better than others? Of course. To someone elses point, at this time, I wouldn't even recommend SSD for anyone that I had a responsibility for their data, unless they were doing dual parity raid or had a consistent back up plan.

Now with that said - would I pay a LITTLE more for an item that is the same that might be thought to be better quality? Yes. Would I pay a lot more for it, when I could probably get 2 or more of something cheaper for the same price? Probably not. Simply because those products still have a failure rate, they are not flawless. Just my opinion on the matter.

My brand loyalty went out the window years ago with the company I worked for (which is another story I won't bore you with).
