I'm looking thru this thread, & one thing is glaring at my face: DFI Blood Iron T2RL

Not Crucial vs. OCZ or whatever you guys are trying to claim is better or worse or good or bad (this is nothing but opinions from people; not facts).

DFIs are notoriously picky with RAM, & i've experienced this firsthand.

I had a UT P35-T2R that was quite frankly a POS IMHO when it came to my 8 GB of Mushkin at the time.

It could run 2x2 GB wonderfully, but as soon as i dared to run 3x2 or 4x2 GB you'd think i was trying to kill it, as no amount of voltages/tweaking could get anything but the 2:3 ratio stable.
If i didn't run 4x2 GB using 2:3, it would error in HCI Memtest every single time, even when the CPU & RAM were underclocked.

So while Crucial has definitely been full of fail of late, it may not be the RAM that's entirely the culprit.

And overall, yes, i'd say OCZ is "good".
But really, like with any company, they make craptactular products alongside very fine ones (like my current RAM; it's rather nice).

Am I to assume you are speaking about OCZ?

If so, could you expound on that?

Actually I cannot and probably should not do so on behalf of my broker. There's a story that's well known but since this is not P&N I will not discuss it freely.

I my experience I think OCZ is still a great company. However, the problem with their ddr2 ram now is that they are no longer using D9's because they are not being manufactured anymore.

The new memory modules they are using are great at using low voltage, but they do not OC as well as the pervious D9's and other high voltage memory modules. Also, the new low volt memory modules don't oc low latenices like 4-4-4-12 that well at all. People like me use to buy the high latenices ram because of their great low latency potential, this is not the case any more with the low voltage modules.

I think people are giving the ram bad reviews because they are finding these facts out after they purchased the ram. People were expecting to get the same great ocing attributes (high and low latencies) out of the new low voltage modules and it just is not happening. The other issue is that the old high voltage ram does not play well with the new low voltage ram. The high voltage takes 2.3 to hit 1066 and the new low voltage takes 2.1. That wouldn't be that bad but the new low voltage warranty is only up to 2.1 volts after that you are voiding your warranty. You can see how this is a big problem for people who already have high voltage ram and want to add more to it. OCZ hat been really vage with the way they put this information out there. They put a one liner on their web site that states "**Do not exceed 2.1V specification if listed on the module label" most buyers like me don't realize this fact until after they have made the purchase and the new ram doesn't operate like the old ram did and there are problems when you try to mix the old ram with the new stuff. People don't realize the new voltage requirement of the new low voltage ram and try to use it the same high voltage that are still in a lot of reviews out on the web an as a result they are burning out their ram and blaming OCZ for not making these facts clear to them before they made the purchase.

I hope this helps, if you will be using just the 4 gig and plan to run them at 1066 @ 5-5-5-18 you should be fine. However if you had plans to oc using 4-4-4-12 it is not going happen with this ram.

There will be negative reviews for every manufacturer if just by looking through a quick Google search - it comes down personal experience / preference. My experience with memory is as follows... I still have some Corsair XMS 3200LL's DDR1 sticks running as good as new in my old A64 system- for me that's enough for me to consider Corsair a good manufacturer and I'd consider buying their products again. I have also tried Geil and Crucial. Geil was DOA and caused alot of trouble in sorting out the issue so I won't go there again. I have had 4 sticks of Crucial Ballistix and in about a year 2 of them died- I won't be buying Crucial again. I recently purchased some Patriot DDR3 1600 Viper memory for my upcoming i7 rebuild having read several favourable reviews on the net about them (including a few AT articles) so I am yet to pass judgement on Patriot but of course I hope it works out.

OCZ is "good" with a stellar support, but they *do* know how to make money with their name.
The last Ram i purchased was OCZ...it's an "ok" overclocker but not as good as ram tehy sold some years ago.
My SSD i just got i was not willing to spend the extra ?40 just for the "OCZ" name for the same hardware.

I like the OCZ forum..and there are some SERIOUSLY knowledgeable guys around like praz who know the ins and outs of overclocking
