has this for 16 more hours. its 120gb, 250 read/150 write, indilinx controller. at the very least you don't have to worry about sandforce problems and for most people you won't be able to tell the difference in performance.

its $59.99 + $5 shipping and $10 mail in rebate

1saleaday doesnt exactly ship fast, but i've never had a problem with them. the price is $15 less than neweggs post rebate price plus if you are in CA theres no tax.

at $55 its finall under 50 cents a gig. rebate says its up to 3, so you could get 360gb of SSD storage for $165.

In for three!

Hopefully the Vertex Plus "R2" units, have fixed firmware from the Vertex Plus units, which had horrid reviews upon release. I find it funny that the current models of Vertex Plus at Newegg, have very few reviews, and still only three eggs. I remember reading pages and pages of bad reviews about those drives when they came out. So either OCZ revised and re-released the Vertex Plus drives under new model numbers, or Newegg purges bad reviews when they get too horrible.

I'm hoping that OCZ releases a destructive firmware updater for these "R2" drives, that way if they go wonky in the field, the end-user can restore them back to normal operation (assuming that one of the NAND chips didn't go bad).

That's one thing I like about the older Indilinx Barefoot controllers over the SandForce.

Edit: Do these drives encrypt the physical NAND layer? OCZ's spec page for these lists "AES and Automatic Encryption"? I know that is one of the positive features of a SandForce Gen2 drive. If these drives do the same, then I'll be very happy.

Meh. This SSD is extremely slow. It's more like 2 generations behind:

Max Read: up to 250MB/s
Max Write: up to 155MB/s
Random Write 4KB: 7,800 IOPS
Random Read 4KB: 22,000 IOPS
SATA II

Newegg already had OCZ Vertex 3 120GB for $60 and Crucial M4 / Samsung 830 128GB have both fallen to $85 this week. I expect good 120/128GB SSDs to be at $60 with rebates soon.

i think based on the read / write speeds that this is the original indilinx barefoot controller. it snot that bad especailly for people who its their first SSD. i honestly don't think you can tell the speed difference unless you are running benchmarks.

True, but in a SATA2 rig, any modern SATA6G SSD is going to show similar numbers. So this drive is perfect for SATA2 rigs. Like my laptop, my netbook, and my desktop.

I benchmarked my Mushkin Chronos Deluxe 240GB SSD that is currently in my Netbook. For 4K random writes - QD32, I scored 2MB/sec. So much for the advantage of a SATA6G SSD, eh?

Edit: Plus, "Look Ma, no SandForce bugs!"

(Have had problems with my netbook reporting no boot drive found, etc. Never had any of those problems with my OCZ Agility 30GB SSDs, which are also Indilinx Barefoot controller-based.)

One of the OZC staff members says the Vertex Plus R2 has a second generation Indilinx controller--"It's Indilinx's own second gen Barefoot with ARM Cortex M0 processor, along with some extras 'infused' like ECC and Boot Time optimisations."
Well, ECC should be standard on any SSD.

But I noticed the "AES Automatic Encryption" mentioned in the specs, and I wondered if they were using an updated controller, because AES is expensive in software, and the original Indilinx Barefoot lacked AES encryption, I believe.

So OCZ using an updated controller chip is believable.

I haven't seen any real mention of the "R2" in their forums yet, it's that new.

I'm hoping that they still have various "destructive flashes" available for these drives, such that you can recover them from an internal SNAFU situation.

Normally I'd agree with you, but recent rumblings suggest that we might be in for an increase in the short term.

And to all of you considering this deal, I'd either spend a few more $$ on a quality ssd, or at least make sure that you have a backup of your OS drive.

Why does everyone on every deal site that posts a 1saleaday 'deal' swear that they've 'never had a problem with them'? Shill alert! And yes, I am 'The' champion Lurker.

I have ordered from them twice. Won't again. Taking 2-3 weeks to ship a router is simply ridiculous. I think they had to make it, out of dirt and stuff before they could ship it.

Ordered one. Even without the rebate it's a good price. Who cares if it's not the best? It's an SSD

Could have sworn Newegg wanted ~$80 before rebate for the 120GB model, now it's up to ~$110 before rebate.

I guess Newegg is raising their SSD prices, in the wake of that Digitimes/Kitguru announcement, involving Toshiba lowering production of NAND by 30%.

I've ordered from them, without problems. Maybe I was just lucky. At any rate, this is an SSD that I will not be buying.

I bought it. about, 3 weeks ago from Newegg

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16820227812

$64.99 after rebate, right now. I say. Buy! Buy!

When I bought it originally, the after-rebate price was $49. so , ya. this price should fall some, soon enough. right?

let me echo some of the big sentiments already said here.

WOW, this is FAST!
Especially for my first SSD drive
Especially for a notebook computer that only does SATA 2?

I can't think of a reason in the world to spend $25-50 more for a proper SATA III drive, ... if you don't have a sata 3 controller. am I wrong?

well, I've already got it from newegg and I love it. took 15 minutes to install today. windows boots up in 12-15 seconds, (including bios boot screen)
