OD Computer Deals Possibly

Okay, pass the crack pipe, I called this particular store (2 miles from my house). No weather radios, and the only way allisolm got these prices is the cashier was an idiot and added the Compuserve rebate without her buying Compuserve. Something's fishy.

I'm sorry that Smartt thinks that something is fishy. There were 5 radios there when we went, two of the Compaq 5WV294 and three HP 667s. They were plainly marked with the prices. All except the radios were right in front of the entrance when you walked in. The radios were sitting on the customer service counter. Sheesh, such cynics.

thanks for your info allison, great help It's true though, most people at office depot are pretty rude and they don't know what they're talking about. When I mention any of the clearance products that I see on the post, I get the same reply "it's been discontinued and we don't have anymore" over and over and over again. You get the point. The CSR are even worst.

Guys, How hard is it to pull the backtag off the shelf and bring it to a cashier for them to do a price check? Worse that can happen is that the price is not marked down. I have also found that if you call the stores and ask them to do a price check, they will just look at the shelf to see the price....of course, most of the time they are wrong. Also, if you don't see the item on display, ASK FOR IT by sku number if you have it. I scored about 8 of the various Oregon Scientific stuff at one store who had none of them on display. Just asked. Not difficult. I believe someone posted earlier that because of the .88 at the end of the price, that these were indeed already marked down. If you look at the web the original list price for the 1GH Compaq was 1699.99. Maybe the store that allisolm got her deal, marked down theirs first. I have seen many posts here that said a item was marked down, and I checked it out locally and no deal. Then a few days later I would check back again and sure enough the price was marked down. Or the item was on the shelf still marked regularly. Maybe they stagger the mark downs or across the country? Who knows. I keep a list of the deals that I find here and just check back everyday, usually the deal pans out. I pass by 2 OD's on the way home so it is not too hard for me. I also found out yesterday after talking with a manager that they try to hold clearance items until Saturday morning and put them on a table at the front of the store to maximize sales. I am getting to know the manager and told him to call me and let me know what was going to marked down before he puts them out. He said "cool". Anyway this is a long post, but it pays to be nice and get to know the people in your local OD. I hope this deal does go thru.....good find allisolm!

Let me add more mystery to the deal and some of ya may try to figure it out why??

Got to OD yesterday, found the HP667 system marked as $599 ON THE SHELF.

Then I saw some fishy thing going on, the manager and some staffs were MOVING around 10 units from a room into a VAN!!!! Seems like they are SENDING them away!!!!
So I grabed a TICKET and got to a counter and BUG em for the price. The staff looks surprised and she asked the manager to come over.....Then the price checked to be STILL $599!!!

But why they moving all units away??? Are those HPs being recalled??? Are those HPs being moved to somewhere for clearance?? Or the employees decided to GET em all for themselves?? There may be the explaination why most store are out of stock when the clearance price in effect.....

So maybe some Intelligent Anandtechners here can figure it out

Oh! plus, found a 5WV254 ( not the 5WV294) which is a Duron 700 model MARKED down to $449 ON THE SHELF. Not even worth buying in my opinion.

It may be the end of the road for any new OD clearance prices. Someone at another forum said upper management had decided to return products to the vendors or something like that instead of reducing the prices dramatically. They are trying to clear a lot of items out. But a clerk at a store told me there would be more markdowns.

Does anyone know what day of the week (Mon, Tues, Wed...) OD puts stuff on clearance. By the time I find out about it (Thanks to you good folk ) the products have been snatched up.

This makes more sense....I work for a large wireless company....the stock that we send to stores is on consignment...if they don't sell, they send back to us. You would think that on high dollar items OD would do the same thing....I was very surprised to see OD marking the PageWriter 2000x and some of the cell phones down to almost nothing when everyone else is selling the items for retail price......hope this isn't true on these pc'. I sure would love to get it on the deal......

I wasn't referring to you allisolm. I was wondering if the store itself had done something 'fishy' because the person I talked to said there had been calls all day regarding the Compaq and he even spoke to the manager and there weren't aware of any Compaqs being sold at that price. They also scanned the tags. Trust me, I was on the phone for at least 20 minutes with them, if they weren't really scanning the items they were going through alot of trouble to fool me. Maybe it was a different shift, but it's wierd the manager had no knowledge of it. There's nothing for you to gain by saying something that wasn't true. What I was suspecting is that someone in the store screwed up and was trying to cover it up. Sorry if I came across wrong.

Oh, and Peeps, you're not really one to give advice and my presence here is not your choice, and your opinion means squat. I'm surprised you're not out bumping threads for no reason.

I worked for two different Office Depot in Illinois and Massachusetts. Illinois store change their price every Tuesday and Massachusetts changes theirs on Thursday (or the other way around).

That's a good deal for a computer. I will check it out tomorrow. This Sunday have additional 10% off for the entire store for employee, family members and friends only. See if you have any friends work in OD have 10% coupon to pass out.
