NEC1300A review

So from all the info gathered here is how you might determine what dvdrw drive you get for the Pacific Digital:

If the serial starts with an "I" and the model number on the box ends in "RV1" it is an Optorite.
If the serial starts with a "3" and the model number on the box ends in "RV2" it is an NEC.
If the serial starts with a "P" and the model number on the box ends in "RV3" it is an BTC.

Check that against your box before opening it or you might get a drive you did not want. But $60 for any brand dvd drive just as long as it works with good brand dvd media is a deal to me.

Thanks Joefoster for the information.

Both drives are BF sale $89.99 after MIR.
Staples removed the online item from their website. It is in-store currently.
Officedepot will put the drive on BF sale, maybe you could find it in-store.

They are both dual format +/- drive.

Lite-on has faster speed on CD-R, but need update firmware.

There are $20 off 100 coupon code around for OD and staples, you could try it in-store purchase.

Good luck

Do you have a link for the OD special, or is it only in-store? Is there anything on-line that shows the details?

Thanks!

If the Pacific Digital is a rebadged NEC AD1300 then I would rather get that than the Lite-On drive if both are priced the same after MIR. Plus, I have a local Staples while I would have to drive 45 minutes to the nearest OD. Does anyone know if they will be accepting the $30 off $150 coupon with this drive? I remember reading that the associated have been told not to on BF items.

I have read on other forums that some have gotten lite on in the pacific digital. It may not be as common as the nec but just be aware of the possibility.

Why?
The specs look the same except the Liteon has faster CD-R write.
I have a Liteon 401S flashed to a 411S. So far no problems. I've written to 5 Memorex DVD+RW's so far without fail, and they play great in my JVC, RCA, and Oritron standalone players.

I linked to that page as reference due to the fact that Staples (and other retailers as well) are holding back til ..uh..Friday ..still wondering why..they wish to have stock on the actual day of the after Thanksgiving sale.

I'm going with the Lite-On because I have a $15 off $100 coupon and a $50 gift certificate at OD to use. If I could use the gift certificate at Staples, I'd rather get the NEC.

im probably gunna go with the lite-on, they are both identical for dvds, but the lite-on can burn cds at 40x whereas the nec can only burn cds at 16x. Also most of the people having problems (for both drives) the problems are fixed when they install decent firmware. (The hacked versions)

Can you use the $15 off coupon with the BF sale? If so, that's hot for me because I still have a coupon.
