ata133 does matter in the 7200rpm drives. especially if you are going to install two of them with one of those new ata133 raid mobo. most review sites have shown a speed increase.

I grabbed one today (7200 drive). Added it to my cart and printed out the screen showing the details. Then I went down and just bought it normally, but they subtracted the coupon amount without a problem. The manager was a cool dude

I ordered a 20gb a week ago at OD that I'm sending the rebate in for... Anyone know if I can go ahead and get a 40gb and do another rebate? From the rebate stipulations it would seem to be no problem but I thought I'd ask just in case...

Hrmmm.

I had a friend of mine get one, too, and I bought it off of him and I just opened it and lo and behold! It's a D740x, too! The one I got was the older Diamond Max. Wonder if I can exchange it at the store?

I just called in and the csr told me they now only pricematch to staples and officemax. is this true? i've never heard of this... can anyone confirm this new policy change? cuz i saw this drive for 109 at outpost.com and wanted to pricematch it... maybe the b&m stores will do it?

u guys said that u printed a copy of the hd in your cart with the 30 dollar coupon and brought that to the store and they gave it to you? i didn't know that works..

man... the od website is weird... sometimes i get the site being down...

I posted this in the 20 gig OD thread but it applies here also.

Regarding what to send in for the rebate for an online order: I just got off the phone with the rebate center (Expressgroup.com). They told me to be sure and send in *both* the order acknowledgement fax *and* the invoice that came with the drive. This seems like total overkill since both forms have the same information but I'll do it to be sure. For those of you that did not receive an invoice I would request that Office Depot mail you one in the event your rebate is declined.

ckmoocow - print out the price page from CompUSA or Best Buy ($99) and take it to the store. They will pricematch, or most will. I got the same thing from the CSR when I tried to do that but had no problem at the store, even had the manger check me out.

Maxtor site says:
>>>*Note
"L" denotes Fluid Dynamic Bearing Motors

6L020L1*
6L040L2*
6L060L3*
6L080L4*<<<

So the D740X-6L. P/N MX6L040J2 is not a Fluid Dynamic Bearing Motor but is ATA 133.

huh? I don't understand. If "L" denotes fluid dynamic bearing motor, then why isn't D740X-6"L" is not a fluid dynamic bearing motor? how do you tell if it's ata133?
-------------

update: just went to maxtor site, got my questions answered. did anyone get the fluid cynamic bearing version?

All D740X Maxtor drives are ATA133. The key to ball bearing drives vs fluid dynamic bearing drives is the second to last digit of the P/N. "J" is ball bearing and "L" is fluid dynamic bearing.

I printed out the price page from CompUSA and BestBuy and took it into the store -- customer service said that they won't price match to internet prices.

They're not technically "internet" prices!!
I took mine in and matched with no problem!!
I had both CompUSA and BestBuy printout and showing in-store availablity at both.
I could have walked into either local store and bought it for $99.99 - therefore it's also an in-store price!

Tell the manager that!!

I've noticed that every OD store seems to have a different policy. What's up with that?!

I printed out the pages from compusa & BB, took them to 3 different OD's, & all 3 PM'ed with no argument, & all let me use in store coupons.

I also ordered one online using $30 off coupon, csr PM'd also!

Now I just got a 20% off of 50 or more in my e-mail. Do I really want anymore of these drives?

Yes, that's correct. However, the assistant manager I spoke with, and they just asked if this was the same price as the B&M store, and if CompUSA had it in stock..and I just said, yes..I would assume so if it is on their website. The Assistant manager was ok with that answer. They didn't even bother to call (I was surprised!) There is some pretty fierce competition here in the minneapolis/st. paul metro area (in the suburbs anyway) between CompUSA, Best Buy, Office Depot, and Office Max. Nearly all of them will PM without calling and verifying stock/price. They're just desperate to get people in their doors.

Now you need 4 different addresses to send your rebates to!
I believe it is only one per household/name/address/etc.

theta z -- competition in the washington dc suburbs isn't quite so fierce. too many lobbyists and lawyers too busy to shop for the best price. Maybe I should ask my dad in minnetonka to shop for me.

Others, if you order online, I strongly suggest that you pay a visit to your local B&M OD to get them to print out a receipt/invoice and print out an official OD receipt form. I have had a Walled Lake, MI rebate rejected because I printed the rebate form from a pdf on OD.com. They said the terms of the rebate called for an original rebate form?????????

thanks overclocked92.

I want the 7200rpm version, so i can't use bby or compusa. they also have it for 129. i guess outpost.com won't work then cuz it's internet store huh? cuz bestbuy.com and compusa.com have corresponding b&m stores. but since fry's bought outpost.com.... soooo maybe outpost's prices applies to fry's too??? going out on a limb? anyone think that would work?

this is a really tight deal. i really shouldn't have gotten that 30 giger a few weeks. it turned out as a quantum fireball AS, which is faster than the maxtors, but definately not as sweet as the DX series! if i do get this, i hope i do get a DX740 though!!

And if anyone's willing to swap a D740X for a ST0154000U, ATA100, I'm game!

Starting to get the pieces for my killer DV editing box (dual XP 1900+, etc.) and the ATA133 would be really nice

BobF The rebate form says nothing about emailed invioce it says receipt or invoice that comes with drive. they have no grounds to deny it without both.

The rebate form that I downloaded from the Office Depot site asks for the "original Office Depot sales receipt". It does not use the word invoice.

So the question is what exactly do they mean by that? Depending on who I talked to at the Express Group rebate center I got different answers. The first time I called I was told that my online order confirmation would be sufficient. The next time I called I was told that that same form would be rejected. This was all before my drive even arrived when I was concerned that I might not receive an invoice with the drive.

And I agree that they should have no grounds to deny it without both the invoice and the faxed "order confirmation". But the folks that told me to be sure to include both are the same folks that will evaluate the rebate.

My guess is that this will all go over fine but I would recommend that everyone keep an eye on this particular rebate and that they keeps copies of everything.
