I ordered the 5400 rpm drive (speed isn't that important to me, got a 60gxp for my main drive, this will just be slow storage) using the 30/100 coupon and instore pickup. I'll try tomorrow to PM it to compusa... I have no experience at this OD with PMs and such, so I'll see how it goes...

Please excuse my incompetence but could someone post the link for the 30/100 coupon... Can't seem to find it at FW.

Thanks

here's a fat wallet forum thread
thread
if you look carefully you will find $30 link

some of us actually prefer 5400 drive because it runs cooler. It's the perfect size for a replacement master in a directivo hack. SOme of us who got the cheap philips directivos (still waiting on that rebate) are looking to expand the capacity. Best way to do this is to clone the original drive -- which is 40 gig and to add a larger slave (I'm adding the $50 WD 60 gig from black friday).

So to take advantage of the "double rebate" you have to do the following: (I'm actually asking not telling)

1) Do the 30/100 online rebate then buy at the website
2) Pickup at the store (how is this done?)
3) Get the mail in rebate when you pick up at the store

Is this correct?

Thanks,

Mattlock

Correction

It looks like you have to print the mail in rebate from the LINK provided above. Is that correct?

I assume there is no problem with OD honoring the mail in rebate of $30.00 in addition to the online rebate of $30.

Sorry for all the questions. Still new at this.

Mattlock,

The $30 online is a coupon, the $30 that you have to mail in (and wait a long time....) is a rebate.

wcheung,

Gotcha,

I just want to make sure that I can use the "online receipt" which includes the $30.00 coupon when I send in the rebate or should I print the $99.00 price (after the coupon) and take to OD directly and ask them to pricematch. That way I will have a hard copy receipt to send in with the rebate.

thanks,

Mattlock

I bought a 20 gig 7200 with the $30 off $100 coupon last week and these fools shipped it without any receipt. On their system my order stills shows up as in the truck, so I waiting for them to update their tracking system in order to send in for the rebate. :disgust:

<<<Did you PM to CompUSA price of 99.99?>>>

Yes.

<<<Did they add any shipping charge or anything>>>

Nope.

BTW, I didn't do in-store pickup because I wanted to get the drives right away. So I just went in the store with printout of the Compusa page, Compusa's Availability page, Office Depot page, my Office Depot check-out page with coupon, and printout of the coupon being accepted. It took a little convincing at one of the stores (Fullerton), but the other store (Whittier) was easy. The clerk just called the manager over and he fetched her the hard drive and then left. I asked her to ad the coupon and she looked at it and just did it without calling her boss again. Hope you guys have the same luck as I did.

I just called OD (888-463-3768) and had them fax me a receipt.
If you don't have a fax machine, maybe they can email (I don't know).
I don't know if the shipping info on the order will EVER update - so I don't think you want to wait!

Well I just went to OD (@ 9:45am) with a printout of my attempted use of the $30 online coupon. They didn't even ask me any questions and honored it. BTW BestBuy has this drive for $99.99 which they also pricematched so my total was $75.99 - $40 MIR = $35.99 total great deal.

This was in Boca area of Florida.

Anybody had any luck doing a online pricematch. I've called 2 times and both times the rep. said they couldn't price match CompUSA because they didn't sell through a catalog. Wondered if I should just keep trying or accept a Staples pricematch (which thay offered as a competitor which they could price match).

Looks like I'm late on this deal -- Is there anyone left to PM with? CompUSA is 129 as is BestBuy. CircuitCity wants 139 for it :|

Edit: I'm interested in the 7200RPM drive.

I didn't find anyone ever to PM the 7200 with... I am getting the 5400 and pming to compusa at 99. Everywhere I looked the 7200 was the same 129 as OD.

How many UPC labels are on this box? BB has this same HD with a $20 GC and $30 rebate. It requires two labels, so I'm just wondering how many UPC labels there are.

I just tried the same thing as you (taking the printout copy of the price after coupon of $99.00) but they told me that they would not match their online prices.

Any suggestions on how I might work this deal?

Thanks,

Mattlock

I told them that I tryed the in store delivery option and showed them a printout of this attempt. The person I spoke to said that OD's site is/was having problems so he honored the coupon. As for the PM all I did was tell him about it and he agreed to do it. So I had it easy btw it was pretty early in the morning and they weren't busy. I'll post what I printed out soon.

for those of you who checked out the 7200rpm version, can someone confirm that it's indeed the ata133 model? i checked the online link, but couldn't find anything to show that it's ata133. but i think someone mentioned that he got the ata133 models. is this true for all stores and online?

It sounds like as of late, that MANY of the 5400rpm "kits" coming from Maxtor actually have 7200rpm drives with ATA133. However, the models inside the kits are "specified at their lowest rating of what could be included" which means, you can get one of the older 7200rpm drives or a current drive. It just depends what Maxtor has overstock on, probably.

As far as ATA133 - I wouldn't worry about it if the drive does not support it (although you will most likely receive an ATA133 if you order from OfficeDepot), IDE drives can't even max out to the ATA33 specs. as of yet. It all depends on how fast the drive spins and reads/writes.

Yeah, let me know what that printout says. I can't get the online form to let me do store pickup, keeps saying it's out of stock..but I was at the store and they had 5 in the case!! Same SKU and everything. Frustrating. I don't want to do delivery, since I am never around when OD stops by. Perhaps I will have to take advantage of best buy deal instead for the same drive...or maybe I will pick up a 20GB instead. I just need some extra space on an older system.

**UPDATE** That Best buy rebate someone mentioned, looks like it expired on 12/01/01 (on their website anyway, perhaps the real printed rebate is different?) **UPDATE**

The store wants me to bring in a printed coupon code.

I don't see any printable coupons on any of the usual sites... they just have links to the $30 off $100.

If I give them the 4 digit code should they be able to make it work?

Just got my 5400 drive from Office Depot

Brought in a printout of my online cart showing the coupon and a printout from CompUSA showing the $99.99 price. No problems at all.

Came out to $80 before rebate.

Just opened the box, my drive is the newer model, the D540X-4D.
