Odd memory config; 2x2GB +2x4GB=12GB

After reading this - http://forums.anandtech.com/showthread.php?t=2138151- a few questions came up.

I have a 2x2GB on the way. And since Newegg was having that great discount on memory I thought, why the heck not?
They credited me with %15 credit for the first order, but since it's so tempting I thought, why not get another 2x4GB to bring it to a roomy 12GB total? And use a large chunk as a RAM disk.

Question is; are there any issues I am not aware of?

I believe as long as they are paired properly in the matching slots, there should be no issue, right?
And since they are the same brand and same specs save for the size of the modules, there should be no issues other than a possible difficulty in running them at spec speed and timings?

So, should I pull the trigger??

Sure, you can combine different module sizes. RAM prices were predicted to bottom about now so it is a good time to buy. Anyway depending on what you use your computer for, 8 would probably suffice and you could use the 2GB sticks for spares, troubleshooting etc. Of course this is assuming you are running x64 OS?

That is correct. I am using Windows 7/64!
The current deals on Newegg make 12GB quite affordable. For a 4x4GB kit, you would have to pay $100 more for a mere 4GB more, but the advantage is that these just that, a kit and are all specified to run at CL9. Is it worth $100 though?

My main would be to use the second kit as a RAM drive; start programs, have them run on the RAM disk - is it even possible? - or use that ram as a temp folder. That would be the incentive to get that added, RAM. Like you said, 8GB is currently plenty.
