Odd temperature readings

As you can see in my sig, i have an AMD 64 3400, with an Artic Cooing Freezer 64,

When I first built the rig, I was getting idle of 45°C, and full load 65°C, so I reapplied the thermal paste and dropped these temps by about 4-5°C

I recently updated the bios, and that gave temps of 33°C and 49°C (idle/load)

I came to switch it on the other day, and the fans spin, lights on, just blank screen. Reset, and ita back again. But, it says just after POST'ing "CMOS ERROR DETECTED, DEFAULTS RESTORED"

All the new bios options from the updates are there, but the old temperatures are still there.

What are the correct temperatures??
and how ( if they are correct) do I get them back?

try flashing the BIOS again, and then reset the CMOS after you have flashed the BIOS, then boot and check again!

how long with the latest BIOS did your comp work for?

and was it an official BIOS that you used?

I used this FlashMenu,Windows based flash program. if I try again to flash it, it just says you have the latest version, likewise teh bios date on boot up.

It must have been working for about two weeks, and yes it was official

I'll try and reset the cmos sometime then post back

try using WinFlash, this is a program that allows you to update/re-flash the BIOS and is dead easy to use

Here is a step by step guide, that will show how to use the WinFlash utility, this program is used by a lot of other manufacturers who incorporate the program code into their BIOS flash utility, much like the one you have used, but with the added grief, like what you have experienced.

EDIT: Ohh and another thing, you might have a problem without the motherboards CMOS battery (crapy charge strength, i.e. a nearly dead battery, it happens even with new motherboards), you could always try changing this for a new one, new battery that is, this would be a last resort though for singling things out.

ah alright, I cleared the cmos, battey and all, same temps

I flashed the bios back to the one that came witht the board, then put the current one on.

Now gettin idle of 32, and pwn is 43 (was told it was supposed to be much hotter that the cpu itself)

Are these temps real??

Many Abit boards have faulty temperature readings. Some Abit boards are more "famous" for this than others. Check the Abit forums for hundreds of complaints. My AX8 reported temps 20 degrees celsius hotter than reality. After Bios 13 the temps are now 10 degrees celsius hotter than reality. Some boards are even worse... like the AV8. I just ignore the temps on Abit boards since they are not reliable. Some people get different temp readings everytime they boot the computer... +10 degrees +30 degrees. I'm just happy that my readings are always inaccurate by the same amount.
