Odd what thieves will take

My roommate and I arrived home last night to find that, apparently, we've been burglarized. This didn't really surprise me all that much, being that I live in a rather nasty part of town (Washington Heights, NYC). The thief somehow pried opened the window and got in. He apparently went through all the drawers, boxes, and closets looking for something. After careful inspection, the only thing found to be missing were a pair of roller blades, the time warner cable box, and a watch. I find this odd because of all the electronic stuff we have laying around. In our tiny apartment, my roommate and I have 2 TV's, 2 VCR's, 3 pairs of rollerblades laying right next to each other, 2 discmans, 2 MD players, 3 computers, and dozens of other computer related accessories and other electronic stuff. We've since boarded up all the windows and pray to the computer gods every night that nothing happens to my computer .

I had someone steal a skateboard deck from me when I was young. Not the whole skateboard, just the wood part. And they also took my custom RC CAR, but not the remote.

Its not that suprising, he prob exited the window like he entered. TV's and computers can be hard to take out a window...esp if you are >1st floor. Prob were looking for cash or jewelry. But now they know what you have, so be careful or they might unload ya.

Ive only had 1 thing stolen from me - pennies. For the life of me I cant understand it. I saved pennies for years (>10) in a 5gal water bottle. Had a couple gallons worth. Thats alot of pennies. One day I noticed they were missing. The bottle was still there. Might have been during a party, I dunno. But how the fsck did they get that many pennies out of the house when they left the bottle?!?

yeah..... it's just weird because of all the little, valuable stuff that he could have taken. we had 2 discmans and 2 MD players sitting right on the table, in plain view, right next to the window that he came in from. but instead he goes for the roller blades and the cable box.

some punks broke into my cousins car and took his golf clubs (expensive), backpack, boxing gloves, and some other stuff. I wonder why they didn't take the CD changer..

My parents live in the country outside a small town in Alabama, some skinheads broke into their house and stole:

9mm pistol, a few misc papers (insurance, bills), my sisters class ring, some of my dad's underwear, some canned goods, and a couple of plastic forks.

They were arrested after selling the class ring. They led the police to the woods behind my parents house were they had buried everything except the 9mm, which of course was never recovered.

All that stuff is useless to someone who doesnt know what to do with it.

"Broadband? Who cares about that when I have AOL?"

Several years ago when my wife and I were building our home -- we lived four miles away and worked on the new house almost every day -- burglars broke in and stole over $14,000 worth of tools, fixtures and building materials. The odd thing was that they climbed a tree in the front yard to steal a decoy owl we had placed there to scare away the yellow banded flickers (a kind of woodpecker)that had been attacking the fascia and soffits on the house.

XeonTux, we left an identical water bottle in its place. You had $24.87 in there and no you can't have it back.

i've lost bicycles off our propery a few times, but alot of people hit construction sites, small sites. I have a friend in the business, he's had a few of his jobs broken into and all his tools taken, laughing at the penny jars. . some one once stole my brothers glasses. at school though, no one ever stole my stuff, i was too wierd. in shop they tried, but they were just messing with me, but some kid had a jrudge against the teacher, so over the course of a year he stole aton of project kits, and then gave them to kids in shop, who didn't realize it, and they built them in shop and the teacher didn't realizxe it till after the creep graduated. that guy had some problems ok im just blabbing/ neffin now gnite

He was probably just looking for an apt. with a cable box. The market for them in NYC isn't too bad...I think you can get a hundred or 2 for one, almost as good as one of those other electronics, but obviously a lot easier to carry out. The watch I'm guessing was expensive or somewhat fancy, and the blades....well, maybe he just realized he needed exercize when he couldn't carry your expensive TVs and VCRs to your window without breaking a sweat.
