I know you can wake up with your hands asleep, I know you can wake up with your feet asleep, but somehow, the left hand side of my skull was asleep! As soon as I got out of bed it disappeared, but .... odd!

nah, if that were the case, he'd have a hard time getting out of bed. he'd be dizzy, nauseous, vision problems, weakness or tingling down an entire side of his body, total loss of strength in his extremities (almost like they were really just too heavy)...
it just sounds like he occluded his superficial termporal artery... it's the vessel that supplies blood to the lateral half of his scalp
