So a few things to consider:

1) This was supposed to energize the Biden campaign and hopefully help narrow the polling. By that metric alone if these numbers are representative then the strategy failed. That they are losing by the same amount is truly not a great argument.

2) The performance has nuked Dem party confidence. Including donors, elected officials, and the punditry. He's dangerously close to being underwater with his own voters as well in terms of thinking if he should be running. This is a bad place to be.

3) This news cycle is going to be fucking impossible to extinguish like trying to douse a burning Tesla with a bucket of water.

4) The prospect of further performance issues from the candidate.
Excellent points. I'm glad to see you coming around to the reality that we are facing, so we can go win this goddamn election. Could Biden still win? Sure. But this is not the right time to gamble even more and the odds DEFINITELY went down, even just a bit, but when they were supposed to be going up. We saw a disaster happen and we just wasted a whole primary cycle on gambling on Biden, whose team strung us along way too long that he was capable. Let's at least get some better odds with someone who can communicate outside of scripted events.

Again the question of who these polls are reaching. Is it only oldies that have their minds made up and know how the game works?

If young people are gonna young and sit out this election "to teach democrats a lesson" will polls capture that?

Pants are being shat, diapers are being filled on places like Reddit.

Even if we distrust the polling the party and the campaign are absolutely paying attention to it. So as far as it impacts the decision making that's happening its important in this context.

Yes, Biden still could win the election. As to the issue of his condition my suspicion is that Biden April 2023 and Biden now are two different propositions. People usually age unevenly and sometimes kind of in bursts. If his family and aides concealed the situation then they are also culpable in what's happened as they have failed to advise him faithfully.

I watched a CNN interview this morning and their camera had a close up of Biden leaving the stage after the debate. Trump had already walked to the stage exit and disappeared but Biden was frozen by the podium with Jill at his side. She tried to walk him forward but he couldn't move so she had to step back and pull his hand to get him moving forward.

Then when they got to the short steps a producer came forward to take his other hand to help him down the steps because he was doing so poorly but he refused it. This is not a good look and I don't care what you think. He's no longer able to function at the level required to be president and Trump is only half a step behind him in that department.

I can't find that video but I did find this one with a different angle that shows it happen just not up close. Just watch the first 30 seconds of it.

This is a bit better.

Ok so I voted a 30% chance Biden quits. Maybe that's too high of odds but I don't think 1 in 3 is necessarily unreasonable in these circumstances. The public face of what the campaign and allies are saying is irrelevant because he's in until his not. So what happens if that 1 in 3 comes to pass?
1/3 feels spot on to me. As you've recapped during today, momentum is growing and it would take just a few senior Democrats to turn the screws. So far, they've resisted deciding for Joe Biden.

As I've said numerous times, I don't love the odds of rolling the dice on Kamala Harris or Gavin Newsom at the top of the ticket but I'm resigned to our collective fates either way. We can still win this thing, but it's going to depend on ~ 5 states.

4 years ago, Biden's best argument basically was that he could beat DJT in the Rust Belt. I'm far from convinced that Harris and Newsom, both viewed as prototypical California Democrats, can claim the same thing. Gov. Whitmer has all but said she's waiting until 2028.

I seriously hope it's more than 30%. Biden's ego and his circle have gaslit us for too long, wasted our time in a crucial election cycle. I thought he was the right man in 2020, and his administration did well all things considered, but his legacy is completely tarnished now. Imagine stringing along a nation facing it's greatest threat in well over a century, so when finally the curtains in front of the wizard comes down, we all see what they have been hiding from us. Absolutely unforgivable.

If he let us have the primary, like some us have been saying all along, we wouldn't be in this total shit show right now. His legacy would have been perfect. He would have gone down in history with accolades, and I would second them all. But I can't forgive someone grossly miscalculating, and then HIDING, their abilities for this critical moment in our history. It's shameful.

It goes way way way beyond that. So you think Biden is good to go? Solid candidate still? You ridin' with Biden 100%?
IIRC Biden won in 2020 precisely because he was the ho hum candidate that didn't scare off the idiots that think there is substantial ground between Democrats and Republicans.

Once again, you literally can't prove that switching this late won't be a worse look than Biden being old. Going even slightly more progressive might scare off millions in the middle as well.

Funny how after the SOTU most of the doomers ate shit but already forgot. Gen Z is not fucking around and is now 4 years stronger. We lost a LOT of boomers along the way, especially from COVID.

It's been gone over many times in this thread, just saying this is because Biden is old is just gaslighting at this point.

Imagine confusing age with competency. If Biden showed he was competent in one of his rare unscripted events, we would all be ridin' with Biden right now, age and all. The age would be moot.

I find it sad these people want to keep an incompetent mentally incapacitated person as our candidate in the most important election of our lifetimes. And they aren't mad we've been misled by this guy and his team, in fact, they want to cover for them!

They also make shit up, no where in that video did Biden Freeze behind the podium. He moved away before Trump, to his wife, for a hug and emotional support, Just as every past presidential canidate has done after a debate,. Where as Trump walked away because he had no family support there. Yes, Biden took his time going down the stairs, I would to at 80 years old, specially when multiple people where talking to them, which is clear if people knew how to read body language of both him and his wife.. they both looked at different people/dirctions as they went down the stairs. Which means different people around them pulled their focus away and distracted them. Just another glaring example of how people take nothing and try to manipulate it into something to create chaos.

Joe looked great last night. He just has to do that for another 213 days. Feeling positive today but I wouldn't count all the chickens yet.

Also there is a fundamental disagreement on how to approach this election, especially when trying to court people who are disillusioned and detached from this whole process.

Off to a good start for this campaign launch.

From he "looked great" to "mentally incapacitated" in 4 months. Relax.

When I think about who I want as president, who can drive is at the top of my list of qualifications, right after walking, and drinking beer. Suit color and condiment usage round out the top five.

It should be a prerequisite. The reality is I have compassion for what he is experiencing, it's a nasty part of life.

At the same time, the absurdity of my post is due to this group that refuses to ride off into the sunset.

Riding bikes on the regular? Yea sure. And besides, Donny prob can't drive either lol. Boot'em all out. I'll be there one day too.
