I just paid $76 in the past month for two 1ghz processors - thanks to the new product rollouts and price reductions, I can take advantage and build a nice server for my church' network.

$10 to ship, what a rip off... Newegg has great prices but their shipping prices suck. I really hate that if you buy 2 processors you pay twice shippiing, up until some point where it starts to combine shipping a little bit (they still rip you off even more)..

That is the only bad thing about newegg.. it kind of makes up for that though if you add the shipping to the cost and realize it's still the lowest price out there in most cases..

That's how Newegg makes their money. Set their prices cheap so people get to the site and think "damn! that's a good deal!" and often times they overlook the shipping charges.
I guess I really don't have a problem with that though. Newegg is a great company and they've gotta make money somehow.

This is a nice price. Thanks I needed something to fill a kk266r that was excommunicated.

As far as newegg shipping charges go, it helps them in respect to rapidly falling prices. If they offer a cpu for 100 +10 shipping = 110 and they want to lower the price without a stampede of customers seeking returns or refunds, they can offer the same chip later for 100+free shipping, a 10 dollar drop, get it?:Q

In any senario, newegg rocks.

My shipping has always been cheaper than the sum of all the separate shipping charges.

I bought a board/PS/HD from them and shipping was $16 (still a bit pricey) but the shipping separately would have been $26.

Yeah, not to mention their shipping is high because they ship almost everything in their own separate FedEx box! I think they pre-package all the high-volume items and just ship them as they are ordered. It probably saves time and labor on shipping products out. You usually save money on the items that they have to pack themselves, evident in 'cheaper' shipping on multiple items (relatively speaking).

And they must have a quota or discount for being a high-volume FedEx user?!? But I'm not complaining about that, just the damn TAX IN CALIFORNIA!

Yep, I noticed that too. I wonder how that sells chips? These crazy prices have been around for a few days now after the last AMD/INTEL drop.

I don't usually buy OEM stuff, especially processors.

I just recently found out that AMD offers no warranty whatsoever on OEM chips unless they are purchased directly from AMD.
Newegg gives you 30 days to return it if it is defective...that's what I was told on the phone....after 30 days its yours.

This may not be news to any of you, but I thought I'd pass it on.

Dude, most of us that know how to handle a CPU well enough with not break it anyhow. Whether it's 3 years or 30 years warranty, if you do it right, there will be no worries.

Gotta say I just picked one of these up from Newegg for a machine I am building as a prize for the Unreal Tournament 1v1 Championship at the MidwestFrag LAN Party this weekend. It didn't have a fanstastic stepping and really isn't a tremendous overclocker, but its stable at 1.33 and that's pretty good. Not to mention, a sub $80 processor with this kind of power is very cool...

well, lets not forget the 1Ghz durons are based on the newer morgan/palomino core, no?
support for SSE and data pre-fetch that the 1ghz t-bird doesn't have.

it's very weird, but i just bought a combo from newegg: the 1ghz athlon mentioned here, a7v133 and a heatsink, my total shipping came out to be $12.83. i thought that was pretty reasonable, maybe it's only $10 if that's all you buy.

Guys, take a look at pretty much any vendor on pricewatch and I think you'll see that newegg is probably the least guilty of shipping profits. They charge $7-10 for FedEx for a single item, and always have free shipping specials on many items. I have noticed that when ordering multiple items, the shipping isn't reduced for the whole order - I.E. you pay each item's shipping price in total, which does really suck. Take a look at places like Comp-U-Plus, though. They used to always have the lowest prices on pricewatch on a lot of stuff but then they'd try to charge you something like $25 for ground shipping on a sound card. I'm not sure if they're still at it...when pricewatch allowed vendors to list shipping costs, it definitely made it easier to determine who had the lowest shipped price, but not all vendors do this...anyway, my point is, almost everybody profits on shipping, but especially when ordering a single item, Newegg is reasonably fair in this regard.

Chewy is right on- other places will really nail you.

I know I'm preaching to the choir, but Newegg rocks. I may pay a little extra for shipping, but I know when it ships, when it will arrive, and that I can send it back with no hassle.

Nice price on that chip. Hmmm...

has anyone ever experimented to see whether the shipping charges when ordering by phone match up to that when ordering online?

Newegg kicks ass!

and their shipping prices go down the more stuff you add

here's what i just purchased last Sunday:

2 athlon xp 1600s
2 volcano IIs
1 ecs motherboard
1 floppy drive
1 visiontek GTS-v

granted one of the proccessors didn't work but I saved nearly 30 dollars by massing this all together instead of doing my regular buying each part from a different source

if only they carried a good matx board(chaintech 7SID) and a cheap software modem, i'd never have to go anywhere else
