Not on an AM2 board. Hook both ends of the bracket over the socket tabs and pull the level 180 degrees to tighten and lock the bracket. You'll need to remove the socket 775 pushpins first but that is only removing 4 small screws and then the 775 bracket/pins.

I hooked up this CPU with an ASUS M2A-VM motherboard and a In-Win IW-BT610T MATX case. To keep the cost down, I 're-purposed' an old Alpha HS for an Celeron 300a (a little hacksaw, dremel and drill work). I will be using to replace my monster sized Home Theater PC (Barton XP 2500+).

The chip runs very nicely under-volted to 1.05v at stock speeds. Passively cooled, peaked out at about 44C with MB thermister reporting 36C. I am impressed. I am playing with OC at the moment with Silenx fan as a HSF and at normal voltage (1.2v). Temps in this little case are running in the high 40's now.

I ended up spending more than I intended, but the new small case is going to be a nice size for the HTPC.

After overclocking to your satisfaction, use dynamic p-states with your undervolting application of choice (I find CrystalCPUID to be more stable than RMClock for these Brisbane CPUs) to run your chip at a lower multiplier and voltage during idle. You could go as low as 0.8v this way, while ramping up to overclocked speeds on demand. The best of both worlds.

Although these are TDP 45W processors, I was surprised to find that Intel's new 45nm processors (like the E7200) are still more energy efficient despite being TDP 65W.

it works great, is is a OEM A64 heatsink, comes in the little white box you get if you buy a low end AM2 retail cpu, idle temps are about 20C, and , the heatsink is cool to the touch at idle, and the heatsink is all but unhearable I am sure if i turn on smartfan, and the fan slowed down to 70 or even 50% it would be absolutely silent.

In my experience, all Socket 754/939/AM2 cooling fans are interchangeable. If anyone has seen one that wasn't interchangeable, I'd be interested in hearing about it.
