Debated this when it was $39.99 but at $29.99 - LiveCash, no brainer. Don't know why I need it but it was a no brainer regardless!

Time to buy a Mobo and other stuff now!

By the way, LiveCash was 5.5% instead of 4%!

wow thats a really great deal for a cheap cpu. its not too slow either.

This chip is the x2 4450e I think now and not known as teh BE-2400 anymore. By comparison neweggs prices the 4850e at $77 for a boxed one and its only 200mhz faster.

If you pair it up with a 740g or 780g it would be a really low power box (the 740g is actaully quite a bit lower power, but isnt as good with HD or games)

If you need a hard drive to go along with this, check out the combo deals:

Save an additional $5 on a 640GB WD drive, free shipping, no coupon code needed.

Also a decent deal on a CM case listed in combo deals.

Purchased this last night. Actual pricing with MSN cashback was:

$39.99 x .945 - $10 = $27.80

For some reason cashback was calculated on price sans coupon, instead of final dale price..

These 45w AMD chips are awesome. I'm surprised people don't talk about them more as a viable option for efficient basic computing.

I bought a 4850e/780g setup (see sys #2 in sig) and it's been an amazing machine. Love it.

I would buy ythis but I cant find a heatsink that would be cheapper then just buying a retail box 4000+ or something.

andbody know where to get a heatsink for this for less than $10.00 shipped, preferably like $5.00 maybe.

How fast is this thing, how would it compare to a 955 Pressler? Slower I'm sure, but much more efficient and good enough for a file server that has a couple of small FreeBSD virtual machines for Apache and Freeradius?

I own a couple BE-2300 CPUs, the lowest power model of AMD's TDP 45W line.

As far as energy efficiency goes, Intel's new 45nm line no longer makes AMD's 45W line as appealing. My overclocked Intel E7200 uses less power than my BE-2300's, thus completely smashing them when it comes to performance per watt.

As far as pricing goes, the $30 makes this BE-2400 a great value.

To compare the speed of the BE-2x00 and 4x50e CPUs, simply take the Mhz speed and match it up to the Brisbane X2 equivalent.

So the BE-2400 is equivalent in speed to the X2 4400+.

These BE-2x00 and 4x50e "energy efficient 45w" CPUs are simply cherry-picked Brisbane X2 65w CPUs tested to more stringent voltage standards (e.g. 1.2v instead of 1.3v). Outside of the stock voltage, they're identical chips. For the most part, you can undervolt an X2 65w CPU to beat the energy efficiency of a 45w CPU running at stock voltage. So to get the most out of a 45w CPU, you should undervolt the CPU or at the least enable Cool 'N Quiet.

But, when the E7200 is costs four times as much, there's a pretty big difference in bang for the buck ($30 vs $120 e7200).

If Tom's Hardware's 2007 CPU list is correct, it appears the BE-2350 is just a little faster than the P4 EE 955. The extra couple hundred mhz on the BE-2400 means pretty good performance for $30, IMHO.

I'm building an economy rig for my BIL and the only missing pieces are the MB and processor.

I would have preferred an Intel system, but these new AMD/mATX combos look like the ticket for him.

I know very little about AMD after the demise of the 939 socket and appreciate the info from your discussions.

Just wanted to say thanks.

Hmm, I kind of still feel like I'd rather get a 2180 for ~$45 after cashback on eBay...

So I bought this CPU the other day, should be here on the 20th. What does the "BE" stand for? I couldn't find any information regarding it.
