It's OEM. It does come with the manual, CD, cables and a DVI adapter, though. Just no retail box.

That sounds good. I am still awaiting my shipment from Allstarshop for my 1800+. A couple weeks ago, I had a 9700 Pro refurb from New Egg but had to RMA it because of bad artifacts. I don't remember exactly, but I got about a 10,500 3D Mark.

I think with the modded 9500 -> 9700 you (and hopefully I) are CPU limited.

Had a friend buy one and did the standard 3d mark it ran 10,900 did the software mod and it got a 13,200 3dmark score he got a 9700 for the price of a 9500 nice deal!

I don't lie. I hold my self to the highest ethical levels and resent even the distant implication. I have no intention of editing my message.

Go ahead, try to return something to them. See if you get the run around, see if you get screwed with fees, shipping and eronious charges. See if your RMA doesn't get shuffled to the bottom of the pile until it is after 30 days from the date of order, regardless of when they finally shipped you the item, how long it took to get to you, holidays, weekends, and if it even came in pieces.

As I stated in my original warning - If you are looking for a good price and they happen to have the best one, and you have no interest in ever returning or servicing the item, and are prepared to gamble on swallowing the cost should the item even come in broken than go ahead and order from them. It's a warning to keep in mind, not an instruction to not order from them. Best of luck if you do.

-Omen-, you may very well have a legitamite complain about that retailer, but you certainly do not communicate it well. Next time take the cap locks off and provide some pertinent details. Even in your second statement you present nothing but bare conclusions. State what you ordered, when, a summary of what the problem was, your contacts with the vendor and what the vendor did/didn't do, and your "public service announcement" could actually be that.

Effective and efficient complaining is far more productive than rants.

I got 10,550 out of the box in my P4 2.4 GHz, 512 2700 DDR RAM, 120GB HD machine, using directx 8.1

HOWEVERRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRr

After doing the soft-mod, my machine no longer boots. It dumps as windows begins to load. What did I do wrong? I'll have to safe-boot and do a system restore to get back to where I was.

Here's what I did, please someone shed some light...

Installed new card, and loaded new drivers from the CD. Booted fine, and did 3Dmark2001se to 10,550.

THEN

replaced the ati*.sys file with the modded one from whoever's site was listed, did a driver update with the new drivers, and rebooted...

and it failed.

Any suggestions? 10,550 out of the box ought to mean ~13k with a successful soft-mod.

put your old card back so that windows can boot. then upgrade to dx9, then try to do the soft-mod again. here's what happened with me:

1. upgraded latest 4in1's.
2. upgraded to directx 9
3. put in new card
4. installed normal drivers
5. rebooted, then got bsod as windows started, but i've seen this before with other parts (win2k just gets nervous when there's hardware change), so i reset the computer, but still gives me bsod, so naturally i resetted the computer again and 3rd time seems to be the charm

So if you've only tried booting windows once, try it like at least 4 times and maybe it'll start working heh. Otherwise maybe you have one of the cards with the defective pipelines, making it impossible to mod.

Thanks. I tried twice, and will try again tonight. When do I replace the ati*.sys file? BEFORE or AFTER updating the card? Will let you know what happens.

Run the ATI driver installation program long enough for the files to extract.
Note where the files extract to, then cancel the installation.
You then go delete the sy_ file and put in the hacked file.
Update drivers from the device manager

Just got mine, when I applied softmod, and rebooted, I got a blank black screen after the windows logo and it eventually reboots. Safe mode didn't work so I had to restore to previous setting. Then I applied the 9500pro mod and it works fine, but I notice no difference. What does 9500 to 9500pro change and how can I check if it works? Also if anyone knows why I got a black screen can suggest to me to try something else? Seems everyone was able to at least get into windows and get artifacts if it didn't work. But I couldn't even get into windows.
