My laser printer is flashing the low toner light and it's time to stock on a new toner cartridge.

The genuine cartridges are available in normal yield 3,000pages and double yield 6,000 pages.

The double yield is $70 at Office Depot.

I can get an OEM compatible type for half the price including shipping on the net or for about $40, I can get a "remanufactured" OEM.

And there's always the option of refilling the current catrdige.

Which one of the above is the best?
What would be the reason to stick with OEM for twice the cost if the printer is already out of warranty?

I have yet to see a remanufactured toner cartridge that does not produce good-quality printouts. My company uses HP printers with remanufactured toner cartridges, and even though HP toner cartridges contain imaging drums, which would theoretically be used if the catridge were not OEM, the output looks fine.

I would not use the refurbished carts if the printer is still under warranty. ( I *THINK* with HP at least you instantly void warranty ) If it's already out of warranty, and/or you have a store extended warranty contract, then go ahead.

Remanafactures carts are great. The place where I work maintains hundreds of printers, and they have been using Marathon remanafactured carts for years without a problem. DO NOT use toner refils however -- they are even more of a pain then inkjet refills and much easier to screw up.
