OEM vs. Retail CPU.........

Which do you guys think is a better buy? I'm buying a 1.2 Ghz TB and i'm not sure which to buy. I don't plan to overclock anytime soon. But I was wondering if I get an OEM and buy a blue orb or something which will produce better results? Also what is the procedure to put an HSF to an OEM chip including putting artic silver or thermal grease on? Thank you!

You want a better OC might as well get the OEM, save the extra cash and buy a good fan for it... you pay more for the retail becuase it comes in a shiny box that says amd and comes with a fan garunteed for the speed listed on the box.

Not to put you down or anything but you dont seem to know much about heatsinks & you dont plan on overclocking.

For those 2 reasons i highly suggest you get a retail cpu,the heatsink is included with retail.

You also get a longer warranty with retail CPUs.

i've always bought retail cpu's, and never had any problems. while OEM's are cheaper, i prefer a nice boxed cpu with a full warranty..worth the extra cash IMHO

and if you're not OC'ing, the retail HSF should work just fine AND is included with the retail chip..if you go this route, then the retail HSF just has some pink goo on the bottom...peel off the plastic, stick it on, and secure...no spreading of thermal grease required

OEM you can buy a better fan and save urself some money the one year warranty i dont think cover if you crack your core mounting the HSF and that is more common that Tbird's burning out with a correctly installed HSF.
