at, hf, everywhere.... they're ditching the x1800 core and moving all production with regards to both hardware and driver updates toward r580

yep, ditched my x1900xt stock hs/fan the day after i bought it. It sucks as a cooler, plus being able to hear it through a wall doesn't get it any points.

This model doesn't compare to a 7900GT. You need the 512 version for that.

Yesterday the OEM x1800xt 256mb was listed for $219.

Also yesterday they had the x1800xt 512mb version, OEM, for $250, $1 shipping. I bookmarked the page, and now it links to the Retail version for $319. I woulda bought the OEM if I had the money available that day.

I ordered the OEM 256mb over the weekend and got it today. It comes with all the cables and the drivers CD. Had some problems installing drivers, but now running like a charm.

also 4x vs 8x deal the same year (?)
yet to see a difference

From what I have seen the results are very similar. Really comes down to brand loyalty- nVida vs ati

However being 60$ cheaper the ati seems to be to be a better buy in this case. Only problem to keep in mind is ati's fans on their cards are horrendously loud so add 20-40$ to the price if you decide to pickup an aftermarket fan/heatsink.

Also keep in mind that with the x1900 gt cards on their way to replace the x1800xt ati stopped production on the x1800xt so we could see some major price drops on the way (ala the x850xt)

The 256MB version competes just fine with the 7900GT. Theres only a few games that really gain you much having 512MB at this point.
