I'm trying to look into some relatively old standards for CPUs and Mobos in the desktop and server markets because I need to learn about upgrading and I've gotten my head in a tizzy.
Let me get right into it (corrections and additions please!):
PIIIs came out (I forgot the name of the original PIII core, Katami?) in Slot 1 packaging and I think they went up to speeds of 733 MHz with this particular core.
PIII Coppermine cores where then introduced, also in Slot 1 packaging, going up to 933Mhz with this particular core.
PIII Coppermines then recieved new packaging in Socket 370 form, and Intel released slower speeds of this packaging starting with around 800Mhz up to new speeds of 1GHz+ (any got the exact speed the PIII CUmine 370s stopped at?).
The .13 micron Tualatin cores where then introduced for the PIII, down from the CUmines .18, allowing for even higher speeds? How fast did the .13 core take the Tualatin PIIIs? The Tualatin were also packaged in 370, right?
Then the P4s? Socket 423 and now socket 478?
I still need to ask about some corresponding mobos with each incarnation of processor.
I also need to chart a similar progression with the Athlons but I've got to run. I'll be back to check up.
