Off to Basic Training

I'm more of a P&N guy, but this is neither politics nor news, so I put it in here. I'll be on a plane to Fort Benning, GA in 24 hours for basic combat training, which will last 9 weeks. Then I'll start Officer Candidate School in November, which will last 12 weeks. Then OBC II and branch training and any specialty schools I may be eligible for. Anyway, I'll be able to post again sometime in November when I get to OCS for sure.

It seems like it could be up to 2 years before I'm deployable. I'm a little worried the Iraq war might be over by then.

Awww...you won't get to kill all them ay-rabs! I am more than a "little worried" that you find it a just a little worrisome that an illegal war waged for god knows what, which has killed a million Iraqis might actually end. :disgust:

There's always Afghanistan.

I'm just past my 20 year mark in the U.S. Army. Here's my opinion on schools.

Airborne - it's a career thing.
Mountain Warfare - it's a practicality thing and a big combat multiplier for your troops.
Pathfinder - The most academically challenging 14-day course the Army offers. This allows you to certify sling loads and bring U.S. air power to bear. Not as useful as JTAC and high performance aircraft, but good enough for helicopters.
Ranger school - You're an officer, so no one will take you seriously without it.
