Off to college tomorrow morning

I will only be 45 minutes away and it's a tiny college but I am still uneasy. I'm not scared but I don't know if I am ready for it.

It's really weird knowing I'll never be at home again for good. Plus my mom has been crying randomly for the past week and I don't even want to think about tomorrow (for her)

I'll be glad when classes start in a way

Only 45 minutes away? That's close enough for her to tuck you in every night if she wants to.

Tears of joy?

Seriously though, 45 minutes is nothing. It's not like you're moving halfway across the globe.

My mom didn't cry, but I was only a 30 minute drive, and she was in town almost every other day anyways. We had lunch together a lot, I came home for laundry and stuff like that.

She knows it's not long but she is still sad. Today came real quick, heck it honestly felt like I just got out of school like a few weeks ago.

You'll know when those feelings have subsided once you come back and find your parents have converted your room into their new home office.

I'm 6.5hrs away from home, assuming that there's not another accident on I-80, which is rare - accidents on that highway are a time-honored tradition.

Every time I head back after a semester break, I notice my dad always casually following me around as I pack. He doesn't like me being so far away. I lived at home until I started at Penn State when I was.....think I was 24, maybe 23. I never went out much, either, so I was a bit of a permanent fixture around the house, always available to fix damn near anything that'd break, and doing all kinds of routine household maintenance. So I was useful, too.

Now I'm semi-moving out, getting my own apartment. Some of my stuff will remain here until I am done with college, and get a permanent residence. But my parents see this as me finally taking a step to really leave home, and I guess it's a "bittersweet" moment for them.
I, meanwhile, find myself bordering on utterly ecstatic (I don't get that way very often, maybe once every few years) about having a place all to myself.

She'll get over it. By Thanksgiving you'll be referring to college as "home" and your mom will want you to go home.

I'm leaving Thursday and my mom is already getting all upset. I'm actually really excited, but I know I'm going to miss her A LOT once all of the things she does for me dawns on me.

EDIT: I'm only going 45 minutes away too (Philly). I could jump on the R3 and be home in an hour.

I don't think my mom cried. She said she thought of it as a sleepover. Actually I did too. I moved in and the following weekend I was home again. Hooray for 1 hour distances!

Now I have a car I bring up to school and I don't even go home... compare that to when I had to take public transportation home... heh.

My mom let me know she was ok with me leaving.
My room was packed up and converted to a craft room.
And the loving words "oh, its you, you aren't gone yet ?"

Years ago, but oh the fond memories .

Enjoy college while you can.
When you get out the real fun starts.
Loans to pay back, rent to pay, taxes, utility bills, car insurance, car payment, grocery bills.
As my niece repeatedly says, shes 23, "I hate being an adult" & "being an adult sucks"

Try leaving for somewhere half a globe away.

I still can remember running through the immigration gates laughing while my parents were upset......hehe....

I wish I had your mom. My mom simply insisted that I take a lot of stupid unneeded crap (ie: 6 bottles of shampoo, 2 extra blankets, about 20 towels etc). When I protested, she just gave me the "You'll need them. You don't know what college is like line." It eventually turned into a large conflagration that ended when she threatened to remove my tuition if I didn't take the crap.

Sure enough, most of said crap stayed under my bed for a year, taking up space. I used maybe 3 bottles of shampoo (I switched to anti-dandruff during the winter, bought from my local drug store), 3 towels (2 for showers, 1 for exercise), and neither of the blankets. The air inside the cabinets literally smelled the same as it did when I put this crap in there. I've made it quite clear that I will literally burn said items if she forces me to bring them again. She finally backed down.

I'm going to grad school in a couple days and I'm pretty sure my mom is going to cry when I leave again.

i've never had a problem leaving home for anywhere really, my mum though likes it and doesnt, she likes that i am going to have a great future by going to uni, but dislikes that im not there at home.

yeah she complains about washing, ironing, cooking food n stuff like that when im home, but once i have been away for a year i have never seen some one be so glad to have a hold all full of washing.

mums are like that. it doesnt matter how old you are, you are still her little baby that she wants to take care of and protect, even if you are a good foot taller than her lol.
