Holy smoke is this kid Mahones good, I've NEVER seen this kind of accuracy running out of the pocket, just drove KC down for 2 TD's in the 4th Qtr to take the lead. On one play he switched to his left hand to lob it 6yds for a 1st down with Von Miller closing, within inches!.
This is the type of stuff we've been seeing the moment he played (in preseason last year). I have been tempered on here because I don't want to get too insufferable about it. He has "it" that extra aspect that great QBs have. And its why they ditched Alex Smith because while Smith works his ass off and can play well when he's on a solid team with good playcalling, he just doesn't have "it".
He is. The rest of his team (except for a RB or two) isn't. He more than made up for offensively offensive penalties.
But I blame the Broncos' coaches for the loss. They were still leading and didn't run the ball. On defense they had like 2nd and 30 and didn't force a checkdown throw with zone coverage.
Officiating didn't help either, again. They missed a delay of game, and apparently should have called a KC RB for lowering the head.
Mahomes is awesome, but WTF at the rest. They had just as many if not more penalties in their first games (when they were putting up points like crazy). This squad made Alex Smith look like a beast, so its not like the rest of the team is crap. I mean, I take it you haven't heard of Travis Kelce? (You know, one of if not the best TEs in the NFL, I think Witten might've even said that during the game) I assume by "RB or two" you mean Hunt and Hill (the latter is a WR by the way). And Sammy Watkins (quite a few people seem down on him, but he's made a bunch of plays for the Chiefs). O-line is ok (and Schwartz, the RT, has owned Von Miller like the past like 4 games, I don't think Miller has a sack against the Chiefs in the past 4 games, somewhat impressive don't you think?). The defense has been playing like shit, but they have talent. They're missing Eric Berry badly. They traded Marcus Peters (because he was doing stuff like slapping his mom and trying to get into fights with a coach; oh and he trashed the team and said Mahomes is bad and the Chiefs will regret trading Alex Smith, when he was leaving the team to give you an idea of how intelligent he is; rumor is that Mahomes was burning his ass on a regular basis during practice last season and he was getting pissed about it), and while they got Fuller he's not the turnover machine that Peters was. Justin Houston has been inconsistent the past few years (although some of that is scheme, one of the Steelers games, maybe the playoff one after the 2016 season, the d-coordinator had Houston dropping back to cover friggin Antonio Brown...), but is capable of playing well (he played decently tonight), and Dee Ford is really inconsistent. The defense came up big when they absolutely needed to tonight though. I'm not exactly sure where their problem is (the first like 3 years of Reid/Sutton, the defense was top 5 in points allowed per game; they've always given up lots of yards though). Hell not even 2 years ago they kept the 2016 Steelers from scoring a TD out of like 6 times in the red zone.
Yeah but the Chiefs did the same thing (when the game was close, Hunt was getting like 7 yards every run but Reid kept going back to those shitty like 1 yard bubble screens and shit and the offense would stall). Chiefs play calling was pretty shit until about the 4th quarter. And receivers were dropping a lot too.
I'm a bit surprised that the DB launching himself into Kelce's chest didn't draw a flag (he didn't hit helmet to helmet so maybe it doesn't quite meet the defenseless receiver rule). There was a play where a Broncos blocker went helmet to helmet with someone too (looked like the blocker led with his helmet, which I thought now anyone doing that is a penalty - including the ball carrier). I don't think the refs were entirely one sided.
There was a time when the refs were trying to announce a penalty, and it sounded like the Broncos were piping in crowd noise over the PA (it was playing through, and then it was like they realized "oh this is going over the ref" so they cut it but then there was ringing like from feedback that you could hear instead).
