I'm looking for recommendations on good office chairs for my home office. My current chair is on its last legs (lol!) and while I will probably end up buying an Aeron since I had one at my last job and loved it, I want to see what cheaper alternatives are out there before I drop $900 on a chair.

there's only 2 correct answers to this question.
herman miller or steelcase.

anything else has given me butt fatigue after a few hours, and I'm not a fat ass, which probably explains why... less cushion.

Yeah I think I'm probably just going to go ahead and order the Aeron. Too bad I missed the sale they had last month.

That's really high off the ground for a chair, whoa.

As for the OP, I got a Steelcase Leap from their F&F sale last year (paid 50%, like $400 or something). That was an upgrade from a Herman Miller Mirra (similar to an Aeron but a solid hard plastic back instead of mesh), IMO. Incredibly comfortable, really adjustable.

We had these at a place I worked for awhile, and I just wasn't impressed. Not for the price, at least. Maybe they just weren't for me.

I'm in the market too, and I'm pretty disenchanted with "designer" chairs. I had a Herman Miller Mirra and it's a total piece of shit. After a couple of years the woven seat material is totally worn through and the plastic back is broken in several places. Fwiw it was pretty comfortable before it grenaded on me.

I'll never spend $$ on another Herman Miller product, and I'm hesitant about laying out for a Steelcase or similar for the same reason.

I want a big, heavy, durable chair that I can recline in without destroying it (I like to put my feet up when I'm gaming).

I love my Aeron.. my advice is start watching Craigslist. I found mine on there for $250. YMMV

My friend got one for $45. Our organization was having a sale and they had some. They usually go very quickly. They had all kinds of other garbage too.

I don't agree. A properly sized chair, made adequately is the answer.

I have been on Aeron's that were the wrong size for me and it wasn't comfortable.

I have a close out Office Depot chair (not that black leather one that many have, and I have as well as a spare office chair) that was >50% off for a store display model. Until recently it was very comfortable. It's not a pretty chair and not very adjustable, but it fits me well and now although it looks like new, the cushioning is dead.

Spending a ton of money on a highly adjustable chair is a no-brainer though in the proper size. You can tailor it to what you want.

I had an Aeron at my last job and loved it. That's why I was thinking about just dropping the money and getting one. I probably should still test out some chairs at the local office supply stores just to see if perhaps there is a cheaper one that I like.

The only problem with Aerons is they don't muffle flatulence. That's (probably) not an issue in a home office.

You'd be surprised -- they muffle them pretty well if you know what you're doing. Errr, uh, I mean, that's what I've heard at least.

its worth it to buy a better chair
