At $1500 Recaro is a little more than your budgeted amount. I've had mine for 7+ years and it still feels as comfy as the first day I sat in it. If I get better than 10 years out of it I'll consider it money well spent.

Have you considered repairing your current chair? I have a chair I bought from Office Depot ~7 years ago. A few months back, the base started to wobble side to side. It turns out I had cracked the metal bottom of the chair. The arm pads had also wore out and tore off. I was in a panic because it was the best chair I'd ever used and could handle me gaming for hours and hours at a time. I looked on the bottom of the chair and found the brand (Officestar) I sent them an email with the model number and a description of the problem. They told me the part that needed to be replaced and put in an order for me. I had them add new arm rests as well. For a total of $55 shipped, my chair is like new again.

Yeah, I was thinking about trying to repair my chair. Something is wrong in the shaft that connects the chair to the base. If I lift the chair up, let the base and shaft drop down, and then reinsert the chair, it usually fixes it for awhile. Eventually, however, it starts wobbling around again and I have to reset it again.

The thing that makes me want to buy another is that this chair is at least 13 years old, maybe older.

Bathroom for farts? If I don't feel like sitting, I see it as a good opportunity to crop dust some of the other cubes.

I've been through a LOT of high end chairs over the past few years.

The Aeron is pretty good but not great, IMHO.

I'd say the best 'chairs' are pretty neck and neck between the Herman Miller Embody and the Humanscale Freedom. Either is an excellent choice especially if you are over 6 feet tall and/or over 200 pounds. If you can afford the fancy desk that pairs with the Embody then I highly recommend it. However before committing to any chair I urge you as strongly as possible to try them first!

I am now using a Salli Saddle and it is the best (for me and my build) option I've found. The split saddle and lack of a back rest are not for everyone though. Worth a look at least. If you go this route you'll need to build/buy a new desk or heavily modify the one you have now. I love that it enables me to go from sitting to standing without using a fancy adjusting height desk.

Hope that helps!

anyone know of a good TALL chair?

I need my butt to be about 36" off the ground.

You want a throne not a chair, the suv of chairs.

Seriously though get a half standing chair, its the new thing coming up.
