Office Chair Recommendations

I'm thinking about replacing my mediocre Staples-branded office chair - after 3 or so years, the cushion is getting kind of hard and flat. Because I work from home, I'm thinking that it might be time to get a really good chair that will last more than the typical 3-4 years of lower quality chairs. I see that Steelcase is having a sale on some ready-to-ship chairs, and I could get the Think for about $700 (after an AmEx offer), but not sure if there are other chairs to consider, or other sources to look at. Anyone have any thoughts about good quality office chairs?

If you live in a medium to largish city, check out used office furniture stores. You might save a bundle.
I agree. I bought my Herman Miller Aeron at a local office furniture store, and it was a good buy.

I wanted an Eames like chair and I got the Soho I from this place https://lauradavidsondirect.com/pages/shop-chairs-and-seating

It's built very well, have had it for 2 years now and it's in the same condition as day 1. I do use a lumbar support with it. I also put rollerblade wheels on it from day 1.

The Soho II seems to be the same style except the lip that goes down on the front of the seat of the chair.

I picked up one of these a couple months ago and quite like it. It is pretty cheap so longevity may be an issuehttps://www.staples.com/Staples-Kroy-Mesh-Task-Chair-Black/product_2260271?cid=EMrdconfrm::sku
It's a knockoff of the Aeron! Good luck with that!!!

Get a refurb Herman Miller Aeron. I've got about 10 years of 6-12+ hours a day on mine, zero issues with it or my back. Yes it's expensive, not as expensive as pain meds and chiropracty.

Funny - the chair I have now is similar to that, except fat cushion on the seat. I actually have 2 identical staples chairs - one for myself, and on my wife uses. Her chair sometimes falls a few inches if you sit too hard on it, and mine has a flattened seat cushion as I noted above and a tearing armrest. So mah not go with their chairs again...

That's exactly what I did. I got mine during a holiday sale for $699.

Refurbished Herman Miller Aeron Classic Mesh Chair (btod.com)

It was delivered in less than a week and looked completely brand new. All new parts, no scratches or any wear, what-so-ever. I was very surprised, and I could not tell a difference from it and a brand new one. I did add a head rest I picked up from Amazon and better wheels (those rollerblade type). Excellent experience and I love the chair. I've had for about 3 years now and it still looks brand new and is very comfortable.

Those look good. For me the all mesh chairs are far superior. Way more comfortable and less sweaty.

I did the same thing and mines was also perfect . I need to get the rollerblade wheels now though.

Aeron here. Work from home for last 7 years and that chair is still as good as new.

I also have a Miller Aeron and I like it, it's a solid chair, but I probably wouldn't buy it again. I'm a taller guy with longer legs and it lacks seat forward adjustment which would make it significantly more comfortable for me.

I have the same grip he does, despite it still being a fantastic chair. It's not bad for me, just could be better.

I detested the Aeron chair. The front of the seat put my legs to sleep and it was never comfortable for me. This was after a "professional" fitting and adjustment.

r/officechairs will keep you up most of the night. Steelcase is a safe go-to, but IMO Haworth is worth checking out as well.

I was torn between a Steelcase Leap or Gesture, or a Haworth Fern, a couple of years ago. I ended up going with the Fern (w/ lumbar, mesh back, and headrest) and I have no complaints.

A bit pricy (I got it for ~$930), but it's well-built and nice to sit in, with good adjustability.

Does anyone have any experience with the SecretLabs chairs? I am looking to spend less than 1k on a chair and need it fairly quickly as the one I have now is not working the way i'd like it to.

From all I've seen, anything branding itself as a gaming chair and using that characteristic design is generally utter garbage that someone just rebranded.

I haven't purchased a chair yet, but this one came up in r/officechairs that may be worth considering: Quick Ship Soji Mesh Office Chair - Haworth Store

Gotcha. I ask because I've seen good reviews and LTT uses them (which I know is not a real reason to buy a chair) and was just wondering if anyone had any "tush time" in one.

The biggest problem most "gaming" chairs have is insufficient padding/padding density in particular on the seat area. Even if it's okay for a few hours it eventually flattens out and feels like a park bench. Actually most cheap/mid-price regular chairs have the same dang problem!

There's no reason a "gaming" style chair can't be comfortable and supportive if it's made with the right high quality components.... it's just that most are not.
