This reminds me to send in the rebate from the last drive I bought at OD. The only thing I see resembling a UPC on the Maxtor box is a sticker, not exactly a printer UPC on the box. Is this the tag you have to send in for the rebate?

In today's mail, I received a coupon book from Office Depot. In the book, was a $10 off coupon for this particular hard drive and the coupon is good through 12/2/02. If I could stack this $10 off unique coupon for the hard drive with the other coupon, this would be quite hot. If you're on OD's mailing list, you might want to check your mail for the coupon package that is being sent out.

Just found a new $20 off $75 coupon at FW. This bumped me over the edge and I went for the drive, even though I hate double rebates. I also like getting a retail kit because you get a nice EIDE cable and drive rails, which come in handy every now and then.

At least Maxtor still includes the drive rails. The WD "SE" drives only include the cable, but not the rails.

I dont know how I did it but I managed to order this drive using 2 coupons:

$15 off $50 and
$20 off $75

Didnt even notice until I got my comfirmation email.

Tried to order it Weds. morn in Detroit but it showed as on backorder.

Checked again at 2PM it was available for 1 day delivery.

Went to Office Depot through Ebates site, copied shortcut of $20 off $100 coupon (exp. Nov.9) at getmeadeal and pasted it in address bar of O.D. window and deleted all but the URL at the end of the shortcut, hit the go button, and it took me to page that allowed me to enter the coupon code.

Ordered the drive and some other things I wanted, $20 coupon was deducted from the total and the drive still showed 1 day delivery.

When I checked my order later in the evening - drive had 3 day delivery icon.

Noon today (Thurs.) UPS delivered the order - Maxtor drive included.

It's a Diamond MaxPlus 8 series drive model# 6E030L0 (manufactured Oct. 06,2002) UDMA 133 with liquid bearings (2nd quietest 7200rpm drive according to this comparison) in retail kit# L01J030.

If this is anything like the maxtor 80gb liquid bearing drive I have, it'll be very quiet at idle, but loud when reading/writing, my IBM was MUCH quieter overall.
