the toshiba would make an excellent school laptop, a 15.4" wide laptop isnt as big as a footprint than your regular 15" laptop.

the hp is a little bigger and might be clunkier and heavier to tote around for your daughter.

Oh not only that, but you can also do some upgrades on top of that. Check this out:

I only buy a new computer once every year or two... and I'm on my way to go pick one up after I finish my lunch! I really think this is a good computer from messing around with a co-worker's last week of the same model. And this is coming from a guy with a Thinkpad T30 (which is going on eBay STAT!).

That compaq sounds like a good deal. Looking for a turion w/ ati graphics around the $500 mark. Plus I like the fact its only 14", very portable still.
Anyone know how long that deal goes on for ?

How is the quality of Compaq laptops these days? They used to be a budget line of laptops, and it showed in the quality of the product. Haven't been keeping up to date on them, though.

My dad has a v2000 compaq and ive been able to use it a few times. Its made well. Seems like it would last awhile.

I suppose thats about as good as you can do integrated, I wonder what the cheapest laptop is that has an independent graphics card.
