I work as well at a local OfficeMax and that comment is a bit out of line. Instead of taking out your aggression on someone else who happens to work there (we don't get paid much anyways), take it out on the store system not having quantity. Saying an employee buys one of the last sale items is a "punk" is ridiculous. What about another customer got in 2 seconds before you and got the last one. Do you sit there and pitch a fit at the other CUSTOMER because he got the sale and you didn't? NO! Do not forget the salesmen are also customers when they aren't working there.
I understand if they hide the items or do other devious methods to prevent CUSTOMERS from getting the product that is wrong, HOWEVER do not blame anyone who decides to pick it up because they just saw it in the paper and decided to impulse buy. The stores for the most part are screwed up with a lot of the stocking of sale items.
Since the Boise Cascade buy out they have been improving overall store efficiencies. I don't know if anyone else remembers but about last October when they were much more prominent in having Free-After-Rebate PAGE in the sale flyer week after week (this is where SUNDAY HELL arose) often they were missing a lot of the product or only had like two in stock. Again not usually a problem of the employee because who does the ordering of the products? THE COMPUTER.
There is a new rain check system for providing sales after the ad has ended and is making getting sale items much easier too. At least now people can get their rain checked items fairly quickly, however the Free-After-Rebate stuff has gone away for the most part. I can't honestly remember the last time I looked at the ad and the whole back page was FAR stuff.
I'm sorry you couldn't get this great deal, many stores had none in stock (I?ve stock searched districts), but do not take it out on the employees. The only thing that can bring is more problems with getting you the help you need. Yell at an employee one week then come back asking for detailed help with computer problems they don't need to answer (OfficeMax is not technical support for your computer), and see how that turns out. I myself will try to help anyone anyway I can however having rude disrespectful customers can really turn a day around from a nice normal day to a long drawn miserable day.
Good Luck and Happy Hunting
