The good thing is that it also printed out a rebate form of $30 with this one. So here is the math: $69 + tax - $30 rebate = $43.45. With this price on an external 120G hard drive, it is steal. After went back, I have checked the information on the original HD, it's SKU# 2073-1095 with $119 price tag, which is actually discontinued product, it has both Firewire/USB2.0 interface. The one I got has only USB2.0 interface but has a $179 price tag. Officemax rebate center actually has the rebate link on this item. Check your local store, you might be lucky to get this drive dirty cheap. Good luck!

My store had one remaining WD 120G USB-only drive too but it rang at the same $179. Not sure why some are getting it for $69.

To those that have been able to score one: Looks like we might very well qualify for a $30 rebate.

The rebate description states that it is valid for "Product: WDXC1200BBRNN 120GB 7200RPM EXT". That WDXC1200... number is exactly what appears as an "Order#" next to the UPC on my $69 Firewire/USB HD (not the more expensive non-discontinued one).

I do not see anything in the fine print that disqualifies me from the rebate.

No love in STL on this deal... The $179 drives were there, but no-go on the price match/replacement of $69. Apparently the model numbers vary slightly-- WDJ1200Uxxxxx vs WDJ1200Cxxxxx... The C and the U are the difference. Misleading to say the least, but after 2 stores, no budge.

Wish more people who respond to these threads would put their towns in the msg so we don't all dupe efforts.

I got the last one at my store and have sent in the rebate, which seems fine, as far as I can tell. Nice, quiet drive, too. It doesn't seem to have a fan. No power switch, which is fine for me, as I use a powerstrip with a switch dedicated to each of my external drives.

This is my second WD external HD, and I am using them only occasionally for backup purposes. I disconnect them and unplug the AC adaptor completely between the uses. It's a little inconvenient as the outlet is a bit hard to rich. I would like to hear how others approach this.

I wanted to thank the original poster and those that pointed out the deal on the 120 GB external hd. The clearance flyer at the Clovis store didn't mention the drive at all, but I had them look it up in the system and they found they had one in lockup. When they rang it up it came up as $69, and now it also looks like I'll be able to get the $30 rebate too!

Awesome deal!

Anyone have a suggestion for which backup software to use? I have three home computers and 1 work laptop I'd like to backup. On each, I'd only want to backup the OS, key apps, and data for those apps.

Thanks!

It is the USB2.0/Firewire enabled drive that is on clearance and discontinued - my store had none left (the logisitics manager told me and another associate at work last night that we had two and she would put them in the hold section with our information). So basically, I got F'ed in the A.

Of course, this being OfficeMax, this is not uncommon. If they have a good deal in an add, 90% chance is they don't have it in the store. I'm getting pretty tired of this bait and switch BS.

Woah woah woah, are you serious? You work for Office Max and YOU are complaining about not getting the deal? What about the rest of us who do NOT work there? You're one of the punks who take the only one or two they actually have left when they do these sales, so the public never even gets a chance at it.
So, no offense, but: HAHA!

I work as well at a local OfficeMax and that comment is a bit out of line. Instead of taking out your aggression on someone else who happens to work there (we don't get paid much anyways), take it out on the store system not having quantity. Saying an employee buys one of the last sale items is a "punk" is ridiculous. What about another customer got in 2 seconds before you and got the last one. Do you sit there and pitch a fit at the other CUSTOMER because he got the sale and you didn't? NO! Do not forget the salesmen are also customers when they aren't working there.

I understand if they hide the items or do other devious methods to prevent CUSTOMERS from getting the product that is wrong, HOWEVER do not blame anyone who decides to pick it up because they just saw it in the paper and decided to impulse buy. The stores for the most part are screwed up with a lot of the stocking of sale items.

Since the Boise Cascade buy out they have been improving overall store efficiencies. I don't know if anyone else remembers but about last October when they were much more prominent in having Free-After-Rebate PAGE in the sale flyer week after week (this is where SUNDAY HELL arose) often they were missing a lot of the product or only had like two in stock. Again not usually a problem of the employee because who does the ordering of the products? THE COMPUTER.

There is a new rain check system for providing sales after the ad has ended and is making getting sale items much easier too. At least now people can get their rain checked items fairly quickly, however the Free-After-Rebate stuff has gone away for the most part. I can't honestly remember the last time I looked at the ad and the whole back page was FAR stuff.

I'm sorry you couldn't get this great deal, many stores had none in stock (I?ve stock searched districts), but do not take it out on the employees. The only thing that can bring is more problems with getting you the help you need. Yell at an employee one week then come back asking for detailed help with computer problems they don't need to answer (OfficeMax is not technical support for your computer), and see how that turns out. I myself will try to help anyone anyway I can however having rude disrespectful customers can really turn a day around from a nice normal day to a long drawn miserable day.

^^^Agree with MarkLuvsCS

Anyhow, too bad I have no time to pick this up...bump anyhow.
BTW, is this only available in the store, or is ordering possible (perhaps the discounts don't apply?)

You're such an idiot.

EMPLOYEES ARE THE PUBLIC. The public is composed of people. What difference is there between you buying a hard drive and me buying one? Oh right, there is no difference because we're both consumers shelling over X dollars for a product.

Shut up and go cry in the corner if you don't like the way capitalism works. You're not special because you don't work at a given store, and we in the store couldn't care less how you feel about it.

This guy has it right:

I called OM last night, and they said that the refurb 7350 was $79.xx, just like on the web. They said they were not aware of any specials on it. Did anybody else have a better luck? Which flyer was it in?

Has anyone gotten their rebate submission accepted? I just got an email from RebatesHQ that states that "The WDXC1200BBRNN 120GB 7200RPM EXT.UPC we received with your rebate submission is not correct. Please send the correct one to: ..."

Not a big deal if I don't get it, but I am not ready to give up yet. The model #s on the drive and the rebate coupon definitely match.
