The last 10 minutes or have massive tearing that gets worse till the player's (Yes, used several different DVD players) fails to read it.
I hope this clarify's the problem and people believe what I am saying. It is not a hardware or software issue it is the MEDIA.
Well, ok, that makes sense. It's pretty well-known that CMC media may have dye-spread problems, and that you don't want to burn much more than 4GB to a cheapo disc.
I was just trying to point out that the TDK 4x DVD+R media, is more likely than not to be identical CMC media as well. You might have gotten RICOHJPN02 instead, if you didn't have similar problems. Ditto for Memorex, as they often re-brand CMC media. IOW, I'm saying that purchasing Memorex or TDK, will not necessarily lead one to avoid the problems possible with CMC media.
It's possible that the K-H CMC media is actually of a lower tier than the media that they sell to other re-branders, it wouldn't surprise me based on the price that most of them usually sell for. Like I said, I'm using the OfficeMax "ValueDisc"-branded media, not the actual K-H branded media, so perhaps there is a quality difference. I've been burning, testing, and playing back only on my ND1300A burner, haven't had a chance to test the burns with a set-top player yet. There have been perhaps 10% of the "ValueDisc" media with problems, some dye issues, some surface scratches or other defects. I've only burned two from my TDK 4x spindle, so can't really say if they are better. The Fuji T-Y 8x DVD+Rs that I got at BB for $20 for 50 are great though, but even they weren't flawless; I had to return the first two spindles because of obvious handling or mfg defects.
I've had problems with K-H CMC-made CD-R media before though too, some of them about a year after they were burned, simply sort of "faded away" and were unreadable. Surprised the heck out of me. Thankfully it wasn't anything important. I use my Verbatim/MCC and T-Y media for "the good stuff".
