Office Parties, do you enjoy them?

I work for a college newspaper. Its a pretty serious job... we work over twenty hours per week. When we have parties its to blow off steam. Needless to say, we have quite a bit of fun

In the 6 years I've had this job, I've only been to 2. My wife has been too sick the other times.

They weren't very fun, but they give out good gifts.

Generally office parties aren't as enjoyable as "normal" parties. You can have a good time, but you always have to be a little bit more cautious about cutting lose.

OTOH, I have been 2 holiday parties for the 2 companies I have worked for during the winter season and had a great time at both places. The one party had so many people and was sprawled throughout the American Museum Of Natural History in NYC. I only bumped into like 2 people I knew there, so you'd hardly have known it was an office party anyway.
Best holiday party ever.

The other one is for a smallish company, and was fun becuase of the intimacy. We're still small enough that everyone knows everyone else and it's a lot of fun when we get together.

I'm a light enough partier that I don't really worry about embarassing myself.

Mine is next week at the UM DPS. It is just a luncheon so I'm sure it will be low-key. I'm not even sure I'm gonna go, because I am nowhere near the building that day.

We really don't have much of an office, only 3 of us working here, but my boss takes us all out to dinner (significant others invited) to a really nice place, and gives us our christmas bonus and gifts. So, yes, i like my office parties. I have been to really big ones and they are kinda pointless unless you like smoozing with strangers and sucking up to higher-ups

Nope...just one guy that is our friend even though he is 15 years older with three kids! The rest we really don't know at all....never given the opportunity since Skoorb works remotely in a different city. Sigh, we have to show our faces though!

Nope, I just go in fear of my job. I like job, I show up to show my appriciation, and the free food and sometimes drink.

Back when Atari was the King of Game Consoles I had some friends that worked for them. They use to pull out the stops for their parties, Huey Lewis and the News for entertainment, top of the line catering and such. That lasted a few years until they hit hard times and laid off everybody. I bet that's the case for a lot of those who worked for companies that were living life large before the tech downfall.
