Office Parties, do you enjoy them?

Let's try this again. It always depended where I worked. When I was a Property Manager I didn't enjoy them at all due to the fact that I found the Realtors in my office to be less than desirable people to party with. However when I was in construction I found them to be a blast due to the higher quality of individuals I worked with copmpared to my days as an office slave (more precisely, the office I worked in for 10 years)

What are your experiences at Christmas Parties.

I always have fun at parties with coworkers.. as for official office parties... those are a little more iffy. Depends on if my bosses are there or not.

Yeah my boss was an Alcoholic so having a few drinks with him usually turned out rather embarrassing for everybody.

When I used to work for GM, they laid out some money for a nice party. Dinner, dancing, open bar in a swanky hotel.

The place I work for now is having a "luncheon" And we have to bring half the food. No bonus either.

I've always had the pleasure of being friends with my coworkers. We usually enjoy getting together and there's always good food when we do. We tend to do this during office hours and it's a good break to recognize the holidays.

I would post a link to "The Differences between College Parties and Office Parties" but I think you'd prefer this thread stay open.

Let's just say I prefer the former over the latter any day of the week.

Ah, Christmas parties, nothing like having the ugliest and most boring woman get drunk and then hit on you.
Then the worst part comes, when you return to work and the grapevine is aglow with torrid tales.

watching a bunch of tsr's trying to do karoke at my fiancees party was enough to make it worth while ( a guy over 6 foot tall trying to sing Madona's like a virgin was the kicker ) and we won a free weekend in dallas

Our office parties here at the CDC utterly suck. Everyone brings something to eat, we stand in a narrow hallway and try to act like we're having fun, and then scurry away ASAP.

My wife's office parties, on the other hand, kick ass. They always go to some great restaurant (last one was at Anthony's Restaurant which is uber-swanky), have an open bar before AND after dinner, and no one's uptight or anything. Great fun, IMO.

Problem with living/working in Utah --- no one drinks, and if they do, they don't admit it publicly. Office parties suck. Feels like church ward parties.

/random thought: doughnuts sound really good right now.

My office rents out a banquet room (similar type of place used for larger weddings). Free food, free beer, free mixed drinks. There are up to (and maybe more than) a thousand people there.

I like it.

Official office parties usually for me are boring. All bosses are there and you always have to be on your best behavior and laugh at things that are not funny. It is sad. No lamp shades on the head with this group. I like to get together with a select few co-workers around the holiday time and have a drink or 3 (actually I am allergic to alcohol of any kind so a drink for me is boring in itself)

We have two different "office" parties.

One with just the normal "grunts" that work out of the corporate office, and another that goes all the way from corporate, to investors, to assitant managers at the remote locations.

The "grunt" party is a blast. We usually go out for lunch, get half toasted, and then head out to a golf course for a full day of drinking, golf cart racing, and yes, occaisionally even playing some golf. This years was a blast. Only one person had to go to the emergency room.

The "formal" one is pretty cool too. Usually rent out a banquet hall at a casino hotel, get wined and dined (open bar of course) and then head out to the casinos for the rest of the night. This year we only had 3 people escorted off the River boat

My company knows how to have a pretty good time.

I've never been to one, usually I'm at school or something. This year, christmas week & the week before are "shutdown" weeks so no party this year!

(the other thread was more entertaining!)

Office parties suck.

Hanging out with people you would not otherwise for the sake of a free drink or two....no thanks.

Is this a serious question? Come on! I spend 40+ hours per week DEALING with these people. No I don't want to see them on my free time. Any of them. (Oh let me stop and say that I work in a 200-300 person company and I am an engineer. I'm not working at mcdonalds.) So unless they are giving out bonus checks, (which this company is not likely to do, being that they are Japanese owned) I stay far away from office parties.

At my office we have parties here and there they are Pretty good fun we get free booze and They provide some decent forms of entertainment. I like attending them, for our christmas party they are having a casino night where they are paying to have professional dealers and tables brought in and no real cash involved which is a bonus but what you win while you play can be applied to draws for various prizes. As for the people here we all have a fairly common set of interests, which makes everyone here seem to get along quite well with each other so there is never the problem with not wanting to hang out with each other.
