Well, we've just purchased some new systems here at work (stockbroking firm) - we've installed Windows XP on four of the systems so far, and on two of them the mice (normal Microsoft PS/2 Optical Mouse) freeze up a few seconds after bootup 90% of the time, both with and without the PS/2-USB adaptor. Once the pointer freezes, the rest of the system is fully functional, the optical sensor still lights up and the mouse is no longer listed as installed under Control Panel | Mouse | Hardware. On the other two systems, the mouse is working for now, though it wasn't the last time it booted up. Old PS/2 ball mice are working ok, as are the keyboards. If I try to change USB ports after the freeze, it will work for a few seconds then the same occurs.
System specifications are as follows:
Intel Core 2 Quad 6600
Intel DG33BU
2GB (2x1) 667 DDR2
Integrated GMA3100, audio, gigabit ethernet etc
250GB WD SATA
DVD-RW
I've updated the chipset software and BIOS already.
It's a weird problem - I was thinking it could be an IRQ conflict, but I wouldn't have thought it would work sometimes and be so erratic if that was the case. But then, maybe I should just stick to stockbroking
Any ideas?
EDIT: We've got these systems using crap old ball mice at the moment, which are working fine. Also tried a Microsoft Wireless Optical Notebook mouse, didn't work - although after I tried that I plugged in the normal Microsoft Optical concurrently and it worked and continued working... go figure!
