Office workers: do you eat lunch at your desk?

How many of you eat lunch at your desk?

I always eat lunch with co-workers around a table in the kitchen unless there is something urgent to be done. Normally I take 45 mins for lunch (includes going out to buy food).

This is normal behavior I think, however I have the impression most Americans eat at their desk. It is disgusting to that on a regular basis. You get crumbs and stuff inside your keyboard, you get no exercise and you stare at the same screen without any break.

Unless I'm going out to lunch for a business meeting (usually once a week), yes. Daily. We have a cafeteria, but that's mostly used by the hourlies.

I do. But my desk has enough space that I can eat at it without using my keyboard as a crumb tray.

If I'm by myself, sure. I'd say this happens about 50% the time when I'm in the office.

99% of the time. I'm not going into the breakroom with a bunch of gossipy women. Plus, I have internet in my office.

edit: OP, can you explain how you get exercise by eating in the break room as opposed to your office? I walk to get my lunch as I rarely bring it.

It depends. I eat with others when I can, but sometimes schedules misalign and I end up eating at my desk.

Stop generalizing

a) we don't have a break room/table in the cafe (it's small)
b) I keep my desk/office cleaner than MOST
c)I usually do none work related stuff while eating lunch

Breakfast, lunch and dinner. I'm working on sleeping in my office too so I can rent out my 3 bedroom condo that I rarely live in.

Some of us aren't complete slobs.

when I had an office to go to, I made it a point to go out for lunch. Even if it was fast food I'd eat it in the car in a parking lot. Because I would otherwise sit at my desk and browse during lunch... which is what I've been doing at home the last 7+ years. But at least I can watch episodes of something while eating now.

This is going to have to change though, because with my kids taking the bus to school soon, I will have zero chance to go outside, except for lunch.

I started trying to eat at my desk more regularly this winter. Our office used to be in a neighborhood where there were lots of restaurants within walking distance. I ate out every day. When we moved in November, it's now a 5 minute drive to the nearest eateries, so I started buying a bunch of cans of good soup and dinner rolls and such and just leaving them at work. I eat out maybe once a week on average. I save money, gas and eat a little healthier too.

I bring my lunch from home and I like to eat at my desk most days. I have a big office to myself where I can stretch out. I got one of those easy clean Logitech keyboards for work to keep the crumbs and grime from building up. My coworkers don't eat lunch at any one time and they are pretty much tied to their desks for their shift. On Fridays, when the boss is off, I head out to a local restraurant for a little lunchtime trivia.

I eat at my desk every day.

The benefit is that once a month, usually towards the end of the month, I can just tip my keyboard upside down and hey, looky there...free lunch.

But eating the crumbs and wayward staples / paperclips / small children which have become trapped in my keyboard usually messes with my digestive system (it's a curse really), so then I have to run to the bathroom...which is a good 40-50 feet from my desk. So I get a good workout at least once a month too. :awe:

On your third point, I have dual monitors at work, so to give my eyes a break, I'll stare at the other one during lunch. It has a more yellowish hue than the other, so my eyes get to relax a bit. :|

Yes and wish I had more co-workers to eat lunch with. They are all at least seven years older than me, except our intern who is just weird.

I eat a 5 minute lunch at my desk. Haven't had a real lunch in years, sadly I've been conditioned to think that this is normal.
