Their Pricematch polliciy states that they do price match their own prices, but you only get 100% of the difference, not the ususal 115%. And you might want to know that the hard drive is not the Special Edition Caviar (WD800JB), but the WD800BB. This one is not the good one, unfortunately. But still a good deal I would say.

They also have a leather chair for 69.99 with no MIR or price match on sale. I think that one alone is worth the trip (I keep forgetting they deliver for free)

but nothing about being bought out by Maxtor later.

Maxtor did buy Quantum not too long ago. Quantum had no manufacturing capabliity,
but contracted out its designs. Maxtor is in some way owned by Fujitsu, I believe.

just get Maxtor.. they're better than WD anyways.. I have bad experience with WD... i got 5 bad WD HD from 3 different system sitting here .. while none of my maxtor have any prob yet.. so I will stay away from WD and get Maxtor from now on

Seagate has some great drives at nice prices and they seem to be launching more
into the direct market recently. They seem to have been focused on OEM for many years.
Seagate has a new and very nice piece of install software, which is important for end users that
set up their own HD. Maxtor software is junky, but OK. WD software was quite convenient.

I've had excellent results with my last two drives, which were WD. WD makes a first
quality HD IMO. The rates of failure on all manufactures is very low, much under 1%, so
the chances of getting a bad one are small. The warantees usually are for
several years.

No, you got that wrong. Maxtor, Seagate, and Western Digital are all the major players (well, and samsung, and IBM, but they sold HD business...)
There is also no relation between Maxtor & Fujitsu, unless Fujitsu is using rebaggedged Maxtor, which I doubt.

For reliability, Seagate has some nice stuff, I know they are pretty close to the top with SCSI stuff, don't know about IDE. I usually stick with something that works, and for me, that is Maxtor. I did have a maxtor have SMART errors, and they shipped me a new drive, and I was able to recover data from old drive, so I am happy.

I did try a WD, and a Fujitsu, and they were crap, (this is about 3 years ago). Haven't tried any of the recent stuff.

You are completely correct. Maxtor purchased Quantum a while back. So if you get a quantum in a maxtor box, you're intitled to return it to get your actual maxtor.

Uhh, why would anyone want to do that? The best Maxtor offers are their D740X, and those are Quantum-designed drives. I have both a new D740 and a DiamondMax in one system, can make direct comparison, assure you that the D740 is a better drive.

I just read the article on the new Serial ATA standard coming this Fall from the link someone posted above. Now, is that 150 MB/sec transfer rate "real world" or just theoretical, like how only about 50 MB/sec sustained is actually achievable with ATA 100? Anyone have any links to reviews on this issue?

THe serialATA 150MB/s is the max theoretical burst rate, so in real-world it's a bit lower. However, the max burst rate is still the less important number, sustained transfer rate is still king, has only minimal improvement on serialATA (though the difference will increase in the future when the sustained comes closer to saturating the PCI bus).

The 200pk CD-Rs are Prime Pherpherials, the ones some many people had trouble getting the MIR for the free after rebate sale.

For the 24x burner, you can choose from Cendyne, Hi-Val, I/O Magic, or Polaroid.

have used Seagate and Maxtor only drives and i would suggest to stay away from WD and IBM,
however WD has released some nice HD configurations recently, wish they would be as quiet as
Seagate Barracuda IV and new Maxtor (can't think of model) ones though. So with time we'll know
if those new additions from WD would prove to be more reliable than their older models... as of now
i would stick with Seagate and Maxtor only...

For the 200pk CDRs, they are "Value Discs" as stated by Bob, not PP as I said earlier. They aren't branded meaning they don't have a coated top like TDKs, Imations, etc. Sorry for the error.

There are 4 SKUs (item #s) listed on the ad for the CD burners and there are only 4 brands OM carries.
