Lol at Smyth going to the Av's , those where some great crocodile tears when he was leaving Edmonton eh?I'm not sure but unless they (Oilers) overpay someone or they have no other options as a free agent, why would they agree to go to Edmonton? this is not meant as a put down of Edmonton, but who was the last good free agent that came to Edmonton?

That's crazy nuts. Now Ovy should be commanding similar numbers. Except he doesn't have a fascination as 8-7-87 birthday boy ($8.7mil avg yearly for Crosby).

He won't see that money until the '08 -'09 season.

No one wants to play there. The travel schedule is probably among the toughest in the league. That said, Smyth WANTED to stay in Edmonton. At least the Avs (and several other teams) were willing to pony up and pay him fair market value.
