A healthy wings lineup hasn't done much to bring them anywhere in the playoffs as of late.Originally posted by: latino666

I was convinced the sharks wouldn't even be able to buy a win, but it looks like they proved me wrong, hopefully they stop being so damned streaky.
and sampson, everytime i watch buffalo play i become convinced that is the case.
Nashville really has the best chance, followed by Detroit and Anaheim. Detroit will lose in the first round due to their players having no legs left in the second half of the game.
Anaheim will just go cold and self destruct, same with San Jose (if they can even muster the balls to stay in the playoff ranks). Vancouver can't score goals to save their lives and will not make it deep. The rest are just fodder. Very unimpressive division this year.
Wings lead the league in most 3rd period goals. It's during the first period thry have to play better. If you seen the Avs-Wings game yesterday you could see what I am talking about.
Also Tampa Bay, Atlanta, and Pittsburgh have nothing on the Wings. The depth of those teams cannot compaer to a healthy Wings lineup that can look like
Datsyuk - Zetterberg - Holmstrom
Calder - Lang - Bertuzzi
Maltby - Draper - Franzen
Cleary - Filppula - Samuelsson
(Hudler, Kopecky)
Lidstrom-Markov
Lebda-Schneider
Chelios-Kronwall
Hasek
Osgood
Depth? Comon, you watch Buffalo hockey, and you're talking about depth? Buffalo is basically playing a minor leaguers vs. professional teams, and winning. Depth has so little to do with superstars anymore. I would say of the three Pittsburgh currently has the best ability to beat detroit, but when Tampa is hot on the scoring they are deadly. AtlantaWow, that's a pretty bold statement. Buffalo and New Jersey can go toe-to-toe with the best of the West, but I would bet money that Tampa Bay, Atlanta and Pittsburgh would lose a series against Detroit, Anaheim or Nashville. None of those teams is as deep as the three Western teams. Pittsburgh has the brightest future.
Edit: I'm not saying they'd be dominated, just that Nashville, Detroit and Anaheim are better than Tampa Bay, Atlanta and Pittsburgh.
If you went to a game or two there, your opinion on that might change.Originally posted by: SampSon
I've always liked the wings because they are a true hockey town team.

They have a whole load of experienced skill players, though there is plenty of young talent in the league that can neutralize the wings and all their experience. The wings are far from being one of the fastest teams on the ice and that means quite a bit in the new era NHL.
The wings scoring is currently as follows: 1st period - 22nd, 2nd periond - 12th, 3rd period - 1st. Buffalo scoring is currently as follows: 1st period - 5th, 2nd period - 1st, 3rd period - 9th. Pittsburgh outscores the wings in every period except the third, where they are only behind by 6. Pittsburgh has more than enough skill to beat the wings. Tampa and Atlanta generally keep up with the wings until the third period scoring. To say that thoes three teams have nothing on the wings is silly. There is more than enough talent on all three of thoes teams to beat the wings.
What the wings truely have going for them is their goal tending (god love hasek, even though he didn't win it in Buffalo AND was talking sh!t the second he left Buffalo aka Hasek is a douche bag), which is in the top 10 in the league for goals against in all periods and their experienced skill players. Even with all of that I think any of the top 8 teams in the west can handily knock off the wings. Hell look at last year, they took the president's cup and got beat by the 8th seed.
The wings are definitely a good team, but are going to get beat in the playoffs by a younger, faster squad. I doubt they will be going further than the second round. I've always liked the wings because they are a true hockey town team.

is off and on, but when they are on they can win.
Wings fans are just like Leafs fans, except the wings have actually won cups since the NHL expanded into a real league.
Either way I can't wait for the last Buffalo vs Toronto home game in Buffalo. There are sure to be plenty of pricky leafs loving canadians there to heckle.

Sweet! This team was doubtful for the Playoffs before the season began. Now it's closing in on #1 in the West and looking ready for a post-season run to the Cup!!

latino - of course Detroiters care about hockey, but I've always laughed at the "Hockeytown" label. Half-full arena until playoff time but always "sold out", fans that get more excited for a lame scrap than a goal, fans that just sit there and yell "shoooooot"... every other sport comes before hockey in Detroit, even the woeful Lions garner more attention than the Wings, who are good year after year after year.
