Wow, by Monday night all of Canada's hopes could be on Ottawa to bring home the Cup.
I know that doesn't make most Canadians happy.

Sabres hold on to win a hard fought series. People here were getting upset that Buffalo didn't walk all over them in this series and win in 4 with like a 50-5 goal difference. As if any team in the playoffs is just going to lie down and get pwned (except mabey Atlanta, they shouldn't have even bothered showing up). Everyday I get more annoyed with newbie fair-weather hockey fans, their idiotic expectations and lack of understanding of the sport. At the very least they bring in money for the teams and the sport.
I'm torn over who I'd rather have the sabes play. The rangers are on fire right now but Tampa is a team I think can beat the sabres 4 times with their hot three leaders. My first reaction is to want the New Jersey Brodeur... I mean the Devils out of any contention at all. An Ottawa v. Devils series would be hot though.
The Canucks are on the verge of blowing a 3-1 series lead. I think the stat during the game was there have been 20 or so comebacks from 3-1, and Vancouver has been at the short end of 5 of them? Game seven should be intense! Turco and Luongo have been fantastic, the big difference is in the skating and pure drive to play hard. It seems to be that in the past three games Dallas has been all over it, forechecking like rabid dogs, backchecking better than ever, D pinching in hard, and just pure hard skating.

What will the NHL do now that they can't spend the rest of the playoffs parroting "Sidney-Crosby-Sidney-Crosby" all the time.
Even though both are incredible talents, Crosby is now the most over-rated player since Gretzky.
The thing is the sports media is still fellating Crosby. During intermissions they have "Sidney Crosby updates!". Give me an effing break, where is the attention to the teams/players still in the hunt and giving it their all and pleasing their fans? The only hockey player the national media pays attention to is Crosby.Originally posted by: sandorski

I disagree. Even Gretzky and the Oilers needed a Playoff run or 2 before they started winning the Cup.

Sure networks devoted to hockey have great coverage, and they should, but the national circuit is a joke. All you need to do is catch a game on CBS and listen to the announcers and watch all the bullsh!t graphics they put on the screen. I won't even call the commentators "play by play announcers" because they don't even talk or pay attention to the game. I've heard so many people say that hockey is boring on TV, well yea, when you have some jackasses talking about everything BUT the game on TV I'm sure it's a bore. If they got some real play by play guys like the VS channel guys or Rick Jeannertte then mabey people would know what is going on. Bottom line is that the NHL can't run or promote itself worth a damn. It's generally a niche sport and will probably stay that way.
Another thing I'm sick of is people comparing Crosby to Gretzky. Yes Crosby is talented and young, but he isn't Gretzky, he's not even close yet. Sure Gretzky said Crosby is amazing and thinks Crosby is the best he's seen since Lemieux and could potentilly break his records. Gretzky was kicking ass in three separate leagues before he even got into the NHL. Then when he played NHL hockey he put up 100+ point seasons from 1978 to 1992, with 4 200+ point seasons and two more just under 200 points. The man was a god among amoeba.
Everyone forgets the likes of B. Hull, M. Bossy, M. Lemieux and many others. Instead they shoot right for the moon and call this kid the shadow of the great one. Sure I like watching him succeed and play, but they really need to tone it down a notch and give some attention to the rest of the entire league. Crosby alo has a new set of rules helping him out. What if past super stars were in their prime with this set of rules? Would Gretzky have 300 points? And what if you put Crosby back in time with old rules, would he be as effective?

I'm more just happy that for the rest of the playoffs, it won't be "Sidney Crosby this" and "Sidney Crosby that" 24/7. I know Bettman is trying to push an unsuccessful product in a market that doesn't want it (the USA), but there are a number of players of Crosby's talent still in the playoffs. Brodeur, Luongo, Iginla, Niedermeyer, Thornton, Pronger, and maybe even Dion Phaneuf belong in the same sentence, at least right now.
It wouldn't shock me in the least if the Pens made a serious run, with pretty much the lineup they have now, as early as next season, but unless he becomes more stable (no whining, and no dumb penatlies) and better defensively, Crosby will still be over-rated.
FTR, even the best player in the game can be given too much credit - Gretzky was.

Officiating may decide this one. Sadly, the Wings are missing Lebda. On the other hand, the Flames lost Class a long time ago. Class was a good player but he hasn't played for the Flames for quite some time.

Goalie runner is still playing with the wings unfortunately.
