w00t Wings!! The team that everyone predicted would suffer an upset.
Uh, San Jose over Detroit would not have been an upset.

Would New York (Rangers) over Buffalo had been considered an upset?

Considering many pick Buffalo to win it all, I'd say so.

Edit - Congrats to Detroit, Anaheim, Buffalo and Ottawa for making it to the final four.

As a det fan, I'm glad I won't have to see Thornton, Grier, etc. pwning the boards anymore. San Jose was scary in deep I thought.
Looking forward to the last 3 series, whatever happens there should be some great games.

On paper, they're supposed to be deep. The Sharks deserved to lose this series. Man, am I pissed about how they played against the Wings. Just horrible, horrible hockey. :|

3/4 in the second round.
1/4 on correctness for number of games played.

My third round picks:
Ottawa > Buffalo in 7. (Meaning it could go either way really.)
Anaheim > Detroit in 6. (It'll be a hard fought series, but i just don't see teh Wings coming out of this.)

F---ing sharks. I guess it's back to the "maybe next year they'll show up for the playoffs". Good luck to the teams that are still in, except anaheim, living in socal and being forced to watch you guys goon it out on tv makes me wish any team gets further, even the red wings.

Sharks had their chances all series. Many good scoring opportunities. Hasek was brilliant. But, where is that winning swagger that sharks exhibited during the season?

Grier had a phenominal playoff performance. Other sharks didn't show up.

It will be Ottowa and Anehiem in the finals.

Looks like I predicted it up to this point. Let's see if it works out perfectly to the end - I had Buffalo and Detroit in the finals with Buffalo winning it all (I like Detroit but I think Buffalo has the stronger team). My 2nd scenario saw Ottawa winning it all.

Wow, not too bad. That second round, I got all four right, and nailed the games for three of them. 11-1 overall.

Ottawa in 6.
Anaheim in 6.

If Anaheim wins, I'm rooting for them in the finals. If Detroit wins, I'm rooting for the Eastern Conference team to win the finals. I don't like Detroit.

The Grier checking line was awesome in both series. The Thornton and Marleau lines, however, decided to take an early vacation in the Detroit series.

I still miss seeing Grier in a Buffalo uniform.

Boy did the sharks blow their series. Their top producers shouldn't have even bothered getting dressed.

Everyone is picking ottawa over buffalo, I hope they are all wrong. If it comes down to a true run and gun game, ottawa is going to lose.
The sens spent the offseason and most of the regular season developing a defense that can actually do something in their zone. It has paid off for them so far, but I believe if they really open up the game as it should be played their defense will fold just like last year against the sabres. Ottawa's awful tendency to cough up the puck will be their downfall against a team that thrives on transition rushes and deep zone puck control. Emery is playing well, but I don't think he has seen the heat that a hot buffalo forward core can pepper him with.

Mabey emery will do something if he gets into a fight.

JohnAn2112, see you in october?

In the meantime, Lets go Buf-fa-lo

While I love Grier, I think he deserved better then the team he chose to come to

Yeah, I'll be around in October for another run.

SampSon, yeah, you're absolutely right about the Sharks blowing the series. I've been pretty pissed off all day about the loss. This playoff run seems like deja vu from last year for me.

I guess the Sharks are now going to have to shed the perennial playoff underachiever tag that Detroit has been saddled with for the past three season.

And for all of the Sharks fans that are complaining about Marleau / Thornton / etc, just remember that the Wings played very well and Hasek was outstanding.

Marleau wasn't a wrecking ball in that series, but to complain about his overall playoff performance would be insane.

how did the guy go from "Hi, I'm Patrick Marleau, And I've single handedly beat Nashville. Twice. In a Row" to "help me.... I'm scared" in a period of 1 week with the fans. That's harsh. (sorry Nashville fans, I mean no disrespect)

Not on the Sabres fan forums they aren't. They are so sure of victory there and keep calling Emery a fraud for some reason.

We are optimistic also on the Sens forum.

Well thank you captain obvious! Who would pick another team over their own team?
I dunno about a fraud, but he sure isn't going to fare well if he coughs up as many rebounds as he normally does. If the sabres get fired up, emery is toast.

Personally I thought picking San Jose over the Wings was folly from the get go.
Though I was really doubting my decision after the first two games.

Yes the wings played a tight precision game(s). The sharks had plenty of chances but didn't bang em home. In fact they squandered their chances and had too many mistakes to even think about coming back against a team like detroit. Hasek plays good, but I'm never that impressed by him. Brodeur impresses me, even though he didn't play up to snuff this playoff season.

The sharks fans have every right to complain about their top guys not doing a damn thing. Your stars need to come through in clutch situations, they need to produce, they can't have entire series where they play just totally off. Though overall they played very well in their first series vs. nashville. Though I never had nashville pegged as a serious contender at any point. Sure they (preds) put up great numbers in the regular season, but who gives a rip?

I think detroit will beat anaheim. Giguere is going to see a lot more shots than he has in previous series, same with Bryzgalov. Should be a good series.
