Okay, time for my Conference Finals picks.
Buffalo, 4-2.
Anaheim, 4-1.

Of course, it could just as easily be Ottawa and Detroit.

I don't think everyone is picking Ottawa over Buffalo, it's just that even though i feel the Sabres are a better team, they have not played like it IMO.

Honestly, if Drury doesn't score that miracle goal w/ a few seconds left in game 5, they'd be golfing from what i was seeing.

Of course, i could use my last year's Oilers as an example though. (Down 2-0 vs. SJ in OT...Roloson saves a few certain goals, & then teh Oil score to make the series 2-1 - winning four straight to take the series.)

So yes, being on the brink of big trouble doesn't necessarily spell disaster; in some cases, it spurs teams to great success, which is very possible w/ the Sabres.


The Sens haven't shown as much weakness, & seem to be playing more consistently thus far, which is why i'm picking them over the Sabres, though it's pretty much a coin toss IMO, as i am sure the series is going to be ridiculously close.

I'm going to take Ottawa 4-1, Anaheim 4-3.

Although Buffalo "should" beat Ottawa, I think Ottawa is just too strong of a team. It's a bit of a toss up though, if Buffalo hits their stride, they better, though not by a huge margin.

And for all of the Sharks fans that are complaining about Marleau / Thornton / etc, just remember that the Wings played very well and Hasek was outstanding.

I know the wings played better. Especially Hasek. But I will complain about Marleau and Guerrin. They were on the ice for both of the deciding goals that allowed Redwings to split the first 4 games. Take away those shifts from the "vet" sharks players and sharks would have won in 4.

I also think Wilson should have rotated Toskala and Nabokov once Toskala was healthy. They did it all regular season and it seemed to make each goaltender more hungry to perform. Nabby is a good goaltender, but I do not think he is a great one. Hasek totally out-shined him.

I don't think Hasek outshined him. They both had absolutely brilliant moments, but both made horrendous mistakes (lol empty net thornton datsyuk)

When you the team gets a 2-0 lead in TWO games and sits on it, and loses it's hard to blame the goalie. "Hey we're going to let them take fifty shots at you, don't let in any in yea?"
It's not like it's Nabokov's fault San Jose decided they don't need to generate anymore offense and watch to see if Detroit can score.

Nah, I think Wilson did the right thing in leaving Nabby in net. Nabby was awesome down the stretch and he carried that right into the Nashville series and it worked. I don't think he should have started playing Toskala since he hadn't played in months and he would have been cold.

Ottawa seems to have a defense this year, but I think Buffalo will outlast them

Wings in 6

My only regret will be not seeing Shanny hoist the Cup this year.

What's even cooler is their awful playoff history against the Sabres.
The Derek Plante OT goal in 1997 in game 7 really hurt, didn't it?
Same with the Pominville OT goal in 2006 in game 6, right?
